To Do App syncing issues between two accounts

Anonymous

Phone 1 (Account 1)- To Do App

Phone 2 (Account 2) - To Do App

Laptop (Account 2) - To Do App

Lists are shared

Phone one enters a task and phone 2 + laptop can see it.

Phone one marks the task as important and this syncs

Phone one checks the task as complete and this syncs

If Phone two marks the item as important that phone 1 added, it only syncs with laptop

If Phone two checks the items as complete that phone 1 added, it only syncs with laptop. Phone 1 receives a notification and the item stays active.

Phone two enters a task and laptop syncs but not phone 1

Phone two checks the task as complete. Laptop syncs. Phone 1 gets a notification even though the item wasn't visible.

Any ideas?

Everything says synced.

Both phones are Note 9. Laptop is HP.

I used to have glitches here and there, especially with recurring tasks and duplications created, but it seems over the last couple weeks it is just horrible. I can reproduce the problem easily at this point.

Hello Julie, that must be frustrating; sorry about the issue; you should probably report it to Microsoft Support at https://support.microsoft.com/contactus/.

The problem appears to be between Accounts. I signed onto the same laptop with Phone 1 credentials and the same happens. Even when I went back and forth on one device, it had the same issue.

Not seeing any settings that are different between the two accounts.

Going to try to create a new account as a short term fix. This is so frustrating!

    Hello Julie,

    * I am a Microsoft user like you, providing solutions to community members; I am NOT a Microsoft employee.

The syncing issues you're experiencing can be frustrating. Here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot the problem:

    1. Check Basic Troubleshooting: Restart Devices: A simple restart of all three devices (phones and laptop) can sometimes resolve temporary glitches that might be causing syncing issues. Check Internet Connection: Ensure all devices have a stable internet connection. To Do relies on the internet to sync data between accounts. Sign Out and Sign Back In: Try signing out of the To Do app on all devices and then signing back in with your respective accounts. This can sometimes refresh the connection and resolve syncing problems.
    2. Verify Account Sharing Settings: Confirm Sharing Permissions: Double-check that the lists you're working on are actually shared between accounts with the appropriate permissions. Ensure both Phone 1 and Phone 2 have "Edit" permissions for the shared list. Check Platform Differences: Microsoft To Do's multiple account support is currently limited on Android and Windows (Phone 1 and Laptop). While you can switch between accounts, some syncing features might still be under development. This could explain some discrepancies between Phone 2 (Android) and Phone 1/Laptop.
    3. Advanced Troubleshooting: Clear App Cache (Android Phones): On both Android phones (Phone 1 and Phone 2), try clearing the To Do app cache. This can sometimes remove corrupted data that might be causing syncing problems. Go to your phone's Settings > Apps > To Do > Storage and tap "Clear Cache."

Additional Tip: Temporarily try using just one account on all devices (e.g., Account 1) to see if syncing works flawlessly. If it does, it might indicate an issue specifically with multi-account management on Android.
