Forms duplicating responses in Excel

I am using two separate Microsoft Forms to collect information and format it into two different spreadsheets. One of the spreadsheets keeps creating duplicate responses (up to 3000 overnight from approx 20 actual form submissions that day) but the other is perfect and produces one row in Excel for every response. I'm having to delete entries manually or use the FILTER and UNIQUE functions which is not ideal. Can anyone advise a solution for this, please?

    Dear Debs1_709,

Greetings!! Good day and thank you for your post in our forum.

Firstly, I want to apologize for the inconvenience that you are currently experiencing with the duplication of responses from the Microsoft Forms responses.

I tried to reproduce it from my side but sorry to inform you that I couldn’t do so.

I may suggest using the option of “Disconnect and sync to a new workbook” (as shown in the screenshot below) once again if the duplication of responses can be resolved or not.

If the above workaround doesn't work then I'm afraid this is a temporarily server-side issue that I would recommend you to contact your IT admin and raise the support ticket from Microsoft 365 Admin center because the support team has the correct escalation channel and the most efficient way in handling this kind of issue. They have higher permission to remotely assist you.

I appreciate your cooperation, understanding and valuable time.

Further to this, I've found this morning that as I delete the responses that have managed to sync with the form to stop them duplicating, it then syncs the next 24 responses to excel before it gets stuck again and starts duplicating and stops the more recent responses from syncing with excel. I'll then delete the next lot and another 24 responses will sync and so on.

    Hi Thomas,

    Thanks for the reply!

I am using my work account, the form itself is help us keep track of who has signed out equipment to use and to make sure it gets returned.

The form itself is collecting a normal amount of responses.

The only way I've found to stop the duplicating is to delete the responses directly from the form, but this then requires daily maintenance of the form which is incredibly frustrating.

I've submitted several of these forms myself and it duplicates my responses when I know I haven't selected 'Submit another response' so I don't believe that is the cause of it.

I added a column in to count the amount of times an individual ID was being duplicated as you can see on the right side of the screenshot below. For context, the 1st row in this table has ID number 599 as I have deleted the previous responses. So from row 1 to row 7369 contains fewer than 100 unique responses.

    Thanks for your help!

    Hi Debs1_709,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

I completely understand how you feel, but I apologize for might not be able to provide a direct and effective answer in my initial response, as I lacked sufficient understanding of your issue. To narrow down the troubleshooting scope, I will ask you a few questions and share some troubleshooting steps.

First of all, may I ask if you are using a work account or your personal account to create the forms and collect responses? There are some functional differences between the personal version and the work version of Forms. If you are using a work account, please let me know in your reply, and I will assist you to escalate this to the enterprise support team as soon as possible.

Additionally, please check if the number of collected responses on the Forms page itself is also abnormal. This is to determine whether the issue lies with Forms collecting duplicate responses from the start or if the duplication occurs when the Forms data is imported into Excel.

Lastly, it appears that this could also be due to respondents clicking the submit response button multiple times. You might consider enabling the "Hide 'Submit another response'" option in your form to see if this helps resolve the issue.

Please share more context and complete screenshots so I can assist you better, and I look forward to your reply!

    Best Regards,
