How to add Copilot to Word?

Hi, I have a M365 subscription via my uni, that does not include Copilot. I understand, that I can buy a Copilot subscription seperately. But can I integrate that with my Word? If so, how? (I don't want to use Copilot in the webbrowser, I'd like it to interact with what I am writing.) Im am using a Mac, which, obviously, does not make this any easier ;) Thanks, Ulrich

Questions about using Copilot are best asked in the Q&A Forum set up for that.

(Above suggestions on asking questions provided by Rhoda Zhong MSFT.) See also: How to Ask Questions In this Forum (to get the best and quickest answers).

    Thank you.

I seem to have misunderstood what Copilot does and how it's integrated.

I though Copilot would be able to "read what I am writing as I am writing it" and make suggestions (much as an editor looking over my shoulder could do). For that, it would have to be deeply integrated in Word.

Now it seems to me like Copilot is one (of many) AI apps, that I can use alongside Word (like any of the others). Is that right?

Or would "Copilot in the Online Office Apps" do what I thought it would in the first place (and if so, how do I get there)?

    Thanks, Ulrich

That is correct — it's at the discretion of the License Holder & depends on the type of License.

You should be able to use the version of Copilot in the Office Online web apps, though.

Hi, so just subscribing to Copilot Pro here (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/store/b/copilotpro) will not result in any possibility to *integrate* Copilot with M365? The only way is to go through administration? Thanks, Ulrich

    Dear Ulrich_22391,

Good day! Thank you for posting to Microsoft Community. I am happy to help you.

If you are using a school-assigned account, you will need an administrator user to assign a Copilot license before you can use the Copilot service:

License options for Microsoft 365 Copilot | Microsoft Learn

More information for you to reference:How do I find my Microsoft 365 admin? - Microsoft Support

Currently, in my experience and investigation, it can only be used after an administrator assigns a license.

    Thanks for your cooperation.

    Have a good day!

    Sincerely,
