I have tried to use the online office 365 apps through onedrive and have been getting an error when loading. I was able to open onedrive but not create a new word doc nor open and excel file someone sent me through outlook.

    Hi @Tamara-Hu ,

Having the same issue again and again for a month already.

    Tried everything you have suggested

    • incognito window
    • clear cached files
    • it's not related to a browser extension as after restart it works

The excel files opens only after a system reboot and for a limited time. In an hour or so files start to be unaccessible again. It's definitelly an issue which appeared in the latest month or so.

So you should report a widespread problem.

Why I have to restart the system every time I need to edit an excel file?

Online excel is broken. Just report a problem and engineers will fix it!

    Update:

It's working in chrome browser, in an incognito window. So the issue can be related to Microsoft Edge browser.

Right at the same time it does not work in Edge, even in an incognito window.

Just before trying, cleaned cached files and images.

Going to switch to Google Workspace. Microsoft's support is the worst in the world.

    Hello Steven

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum. You can try these suggestions to check if they work for your problem:

    Add OneDrive as a service:

To open and save files to Microsoft OneDrive from Excel, PowerPoint, or Word, you need to add OneDrive as a connected service:

    1. Open your Microsoft 365 app.
    2. Go to File then Account.
    3. Select Add a service then Storage.
    4. Choose OneDrive.
    5. Complete the sign-in steps for the account you are trying to add.

    Clear Browser Cache and Cookies

If you’re using Microsoft Edge, you can follow these steps to clear cache:

    1. Click the three dots in the top-right corner.
    2. Go to Settings > Privacy, search, and services.
    3. Under Clear browsing data, click Choose what to clear.
    4. Select Cached images and files.
    5. Click Clear now.

Try a Different Browser or Incognito Mode

You can switch to another browser or open an incognito/private window by using Ctrl + Shift + N and access the Office apps to see if this issue still persists.

    Note:

    • Some extensions (especially ad blockers or privacy tools) can interfere with Office apps. Try disabling them temporarily to check if it works.
    • Please remember to sign in to onedrive.com before clicking the sharing link.

Please understand that our initial response does not always resolve the issue immediately. However, with your help and more detailed information, we can work together to find a solution.
