The legacy version of Windows Media Player is included with certain editions of Windows operating systems, but it may not be installed by default on Windows 11. If you need to reinstall it after a system reset, you can do so by following these steps:
- Check for Windows Features: Go to the Start menu and type "Turn Windows features on or off". Open the corresponding settings.
- Locate Media Features: In the Windows Features window, look for "Media Features". Expand this option.
- Enable Windows Media Player: Check the box next to "Windows Media Player" to enable it. If it's already checked, it means it's installed, and you might need to repair it instead.
- Install: Click OK and let Windows install the feature. You may need to restart your computer after the installation is complete.
If you are using Windows 10 N or Windows 10 KN editions, you will need to install the Media Feature Pack separately to access Windows Media Player.
For more information about media playback in Windows, consider using the newer MediaPlayer class for applications, as it has been optimized for Windows 10 and 11.
