I am being charged to use my hotmail

Hello, I am receiving a message every time that I open my email "Your subscription is expiring. Activate the subscription so you can continue receiving and sending emails". I checked and apparently, I was charged twice for this service in Dec 2023 and in Jan 2025. Charges that I was even aware off. Just saw them today. They charged me $ 19.95 each time. Now in my email says that if I don't do the subscription again I will not send or receive emails anymore.

I have never paid to use my hotmail before (except for those 2 times that I was charged without knowing), so I don't know what to do now. They say that I had exceeded the free limit, but when I enter to check it says that I am using 5.5 GB of 100 GB that I could use. So my problem is not storage.

Does anyone knows how to contact an agent to get this money back and figure out what is going on?

Thanks,

Raquel Gomes

Hello, thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A.

With a Microsoft account (Free one), you get 5GB of OneDrive cloud storage and 15GB of Outlook e-mail storage.

Based on your description, it appears you have an active Microsoft 365 Basic subscription, which includes 100GB of OneDrive and 100GB of Outlook email storage.

(Open the image in new tab)

    User's image

If you cancel the subscription, the limits will be reduced from 100 GB to 5GB for OneDrive and from 100 GB to 15GB for Outlook email storage.

You can sign in with your account here to check how much storage you've taken up:

    https://outlook.live.com/mail/0/options/accounts-category/storage

    1. If you no longer want the subscription, go to https://account.microsoft.com/services and sign in with your Microsoft account.
    2. Find your Office 365 Subscription in the lists, click Cancel subscription.
    3. Follow the prompts, then select "I don't want benefits" to proceed with canceling the subscription.

    Reference:

    Cancel a Microsoft 365 subscription

Note - If you cancel your subscription, your storage limit will be reduced. If you exceed the limits, you will need to free up storage in OneDrive or Outlook.

Let me know if you still need more help.

It sounds like you are experiencing issues with your Hotmail (Outlook.com) account regarding unexpected charges and subscription notifications. Here are some steps you can take to address the situation:

    1. Check Subscription Details: Make sure to review your subscription details in the Microsoft account settings. Sometimes, users may inadvertently subscribe to a paid service or trial that converts to a paid subscription.
    2. Contact Support: To resolve billing issues and inquire about the charges, you can contact Microsoft support directly. Here are two options:
    3. Request a Refund: When you contact support, explain your situation and request a refund for the unauthorized charges. They should be able to assist you with this process.
    4. Storage Limits: Since you mentioned that you are using 5.5 GB of the 100 GB limit, it seems that storage is not the issue. However, ensure that you are aware of any other potential limits or conditions that may apply to your account.

By following these steps, you should be able to clarify the situation regarding your subscription and charges.
