An Xbox 360 “account” is just a Microsoft account (also called an MSA or Xbox profile). A physical Xbox 360 console is not required.
To play an Xbox 360 game on Xbox Series X, do this:
- Create or use an existing Microsoft account
- If there is no Microsoft account yet, create one online:
- Go to the Microsoft accounts page and follow the prompts to create a new account. Notes from Microsoft:
- If a new Outlook.com email is wanted, go to outlook.com and select Create free account.
- Email addresses that were previously used as Microsoft accounts cannot be reused, even if the old account was closed.
- Go to the Microsoft accounts page and follow the prompts to create a new account. Notes from Microsoft:
- This account becomes the Xbox profile used on all Xbox consoles (360, One, Series X|S).
- If there is no Microsoft account yet, create one online:
- Sign in on the Xbox Series X
- On the Xbox Series X, add this Microsoft account under Add or switch profile and sign in.
- When the Xbox 360 game starts
- The first time an Xbox 360 game is launched on Series X, the Xbox 360 emulator will ask to sign in.
- Use the same Microsoft account credentials. This creates the “Xbox 360 profile” for backward-compatible games.
No separate or special “Xbox 360-only” account is needed; just a standard Microsoft account that is then used inside the Xbox 360 environment on the Series X.
