I have an Acer Iconia Tab W500 that installed WIndows 8 on. It was working great for a few days then last night I shut it down and got an error message with a smiley emoticon ; ) and after that my touch screen stopped working. I restarted the computer several times then tried to look at the "Pen & Touch" options  in the control panel, but those options don't even exist. Please help

& Thanks!

Sam

Mine hasn't started working.  I did a refresh on my system, but nothing worked.  I tried reinstalling all the drivers, all over again...NOTHING.

Now reinstalling System w8Pro 32bit... Can't believe, only had this system for a week.

And already had, the famous blue screen of Death twice!!  Because I was force to, 'force restart' (holding power button).  Of course, my touch screen wasn't working... and NO physical hard buttons.  No choice but to force reboot.

I will report an update in my situation after the reinstall.  But if anyone has any other advice, please post it up.  Thanks in advance

If this issue is due to OEM version of windows 8 requiring windows 8 ceritified hardware, to disable this problem in windows 8 try the following:

Windows Key + X, choose Command Prompt (admin).  Then type the following two lines:

    bcdedit -set loadoptions DISABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS

    bcdedit -set TESTSIGNING ON

That should get you past the signing issue.

This fixed the issue for me but left a watermark in the lower desktop saying TEST MODE,

fixing that is a different google search.

Ok Method 1 came up with these results:

    Problem detected with Unknown device

    Details

    Device type: Other Devices

    Manufacturer: Unknown

    Location: Port_#0001.Hub_#0003

Device Status: Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems (Code 43)

    Problem not fixed

    Method 2:

Followed all instructions result: Error: Install Failed! Touch Module Driver

Any more suggestions. I'm confused why it worked before then suddenly stopped

    Hi,

Thanks for asking! As I understand, you want are facing issues with Pen & Touch options not showing in Control Panel. Correct me if I am wrong.

Before we proceed, I would like to collect some information on the issue.

    1.       Have you made any recent changes to the system prior to the issue?

    2.       What is the exact error message you get?

    Method 1:

Follow these steps and run the hardware and devices troubleshooter. Check if it helps.

    a)      Press “Windows Key + R”, type Control Panel.

    b)      Then type “Troubleshooting” in the Search box and hit enter.

    c)       Select “Hardware and Sound” from the Troubleshooter Window.

    d)      Select “Hardware”.

    e)      Follow the On Screen instructions.

    Method 2:

Follow these steps, uninstall and re-install the Human-Interface Device Drivers in compatibility mode. Check if it helps.

Note: Download the drivers from the Manufacturer’s website and save it on to the Desktop.

    a)      Press Windows Key + R, type devmgmt.msc.

    b)      Expand the Human-Interface Device Adapter click on the drivers.

    c)       Click on properties, click on uninstall tab.

    d)      Click OK.

    e)      Right-click on the driver (Downloaded from the manufacturer’s website) file.

    f)       Click on Properties and select the Compatibility tab.

    g)      Click the checkbox before Run this program in Compatibility mode for option and select Windows 7.

    h)      In the list-down box; then try installing the device driver via Run as administrator.
