I/O error status of 0xc0000056

I have to attempt turning my laptop on 6-10 times before it finally brings up the login screen. It makes a ticking sound as soon as I press the "on" button, and then freezes. I then have to switch it off and start over again numerous times. Once it does starts, it works perfectly, but I dare not let it go to sleep, it would then come up with: SmartSetting,exe-Application Error. the required data was not placed into memory because of an I/O error status of 0xc0000056

I use Windows 7. My laptop is a Samsung with 2 hard disks of 400 GB each.

KE

"Ticking" usually means HD.  I would go to the HD maker and download their HD checking utility, and run it.  ALSO and important.  If you value your data I would back it up while you still can.
