Comfort curve 3000 keyboard not working properly after upgrading to Windows 8.1

Original Title:

Comfort curve 3000 keyboard

After upgrading to Windows 8.1 on my PC (Dell OptiPlex 755) my comfort curve 3000 keyboard seems to be acting funny, let me explain.

It works fine for typing, and it's only about 4 weeks old but after the 8.1 update two problems are occurring.

  1. When playing any game the keys stick (not physically) IE: Holding W to walk forward for more than about 5 seconds and I can let go of the key but the character in the game continues to walk forward. (Or any wasd key)
  2. Upon pressing a key the green led light for Num lock/Caps lock lights up, but if I leave the keyboard alone the light will go out on it's own and upon pressing a key the light will light up again.

I figure that what is happening is after around 5 seconds the keyboard kind of shuts down and whatever keys are being pressed at the time are stuck in that state.

Now there is no driver for the comfort curve 3000 keyboard and the intellipoint software is not compatible and the MS mouse and keyboard centre does not even recognise this as a device, what can I do?

This is so frustrating as I'll be in game (any game) and I'll keep on moving after releasing the key. (and that is a death trap on FPS's lol)

Drivers are up to date.

Keyboard is new.

All recommended software is installed.

Can anybody help?

Thank you for your time.

Not sure if you've solved this yet, but i've found a solution for this.

Have confirmed following solution on the same combination of windows 8.1 and the Comfort Curve 3000. I've had the same issue.

Turns out it is to do with USB Selective suspend, but can't be turned off just by changing the power settings. You'll need to also change the registry entry too.

My solution is based on what i found here:

http://blogs.msdn.com/b/usbcoreblog/archive/2013/11/08/help-after-installing-windows-8-1-my-usb-device-doesn-t-charge-or-it-disconnects-and-reconnects-frequently.aspx

A few modifications to that method:

  • While in Device Manage > Human Interface Devices, unplug and re-plug the keyboard and see which entry appears, this will help identify the entry a bit quicker than the method suggested in the link
  • Your VID and PID will, but the instance number won't match what is shown in the Device Instance Path. However, in the registry, you'll only find one instance associated with the VID and PID. So ignore the number and edit the EnhancedPowerManagementEnabled entry for that instance.
  • Make sure you remember to plug and replug the keyboard afterwards

The above link and the modifications i've listed above solved the problem in my setup.

Hope that helps!

I know this the old thread but if someone get in here please try this

THIS IS THE ONLY WORKING SOLUTIONS , don't try changing regisry.  Check this out :

This looks like it works for me on my Curve 3000 in Windows 10... Go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Devices and Printers Right click on your USB Keyboard, go to Properties, then the Hardware tab. Highlight USB Input Device (this is the part that doesn't show up under Device Manager) and click on Properties. Click on Change settings. Go to the Power Management tab and uncheck 'Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power' That should do it. The keyboard wont shut off after not using it, and it wont shut off from holding down a key for 5 seconds. Kind of ridiculous why that is checked by default. -(Credit Nixel) (I had tried this same thing under Device Manger which does not work. The steps above seem to work :)

I experienced this problem after upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 10. MichalKawalilo's solution worked perfectly, thank you! Add so much easier than editing registry entries.

    Hi,

    You are welcome!

Yes, you are correct. I understand that the keyboard works with the Generic drivers. Any USB hardware will work basic drivers but with limited features. This way you will not be able to utilize the maximum usage of the Keyboard. To make the full usage of the keyboard I would suggest you to download the Mouse and Keyboard Center 2.3 64-bit(exe) for Windows 8 and install it in compatibility mode. Check if that helps.

Also, update the video card drivers from the manufacturer website and check if that helps with the issue related to game.

    Reference:

Get back with the issue status.

    Hello Anannya,

Firstly thank you for your help and time.

I fully understand your instructions, however the problem is that there are no drivers to manually download. The drivers the Keyboard is running off are automatically found when I plug the (usb) keyboard in.

This makes me think they are simply generic drivers, and because there is no manual download of said drivers there is no way of running compatibility mode.

Trying to run the compatibility trouble shooter does not work either, as the hardware is not listed, and when prompted to find the file location manually I am stumped as I do not know the location of the drivers for this keyboard.

The exact model of the keyboard is

    Comfort Curve Keyboard 3000 (UK)

    Model number: 1482

    Any ideas?

    Thank you.

    Hi,

Thank you for the provided details. It helps us understand the issue better.

Can you quickly tell us the exact model of the Comfort Curve Keyboard 3000?

After going through the details it looks like the drivers are not working correct. I know that the drivers are up to date as mentioned in your post. Also, I see that there are no Windows 8.1 drivers available for Comfort Curve Keyboard 3000. So, at this point of time it would be wise to try download and install the Windows 8 drivers manually in Windows 8 Compatibility mode as the keyboard has worked fine earlier in Windows 8 environment.

Please delete all the traces of the keyboard drivers and software prior installing the Windows 8 drivers in **compatibility mode**. I would have you first download the drivers and required software, save it in your Windows 8.1 desktop. Now, delete the currently installed drivers and software associated to the keyboard. Install the downloaded drivers in compatibility mode. Here is how:

    a) Right-click on the driver and click on properties.

    b) Click on the**‘compatibility’** tab and check the box "Run this program in compatibility mode for” and selectthe available Windows 8 operating system from the drop down.

    c) Click on**‘Apply’** and click ‘**OK’**and run the file to install it.

Please post with the issue status. Also, let us know if you have any questions.
