Error message: "Windows Live Call button only works with Windows Live Messenger 8.1 or later. Do you want to install Windows Live Messenger now?"

I have been getting a consistent pop-up window message "Windows Live Call button only works with Windows Live Messenger 8.1 or later. Do you want to install Windows Live Messenger now?" If I press Yes, it takes me to the Skype Web site. If I press No, it goes away and re-appears a few minutes later. It is really annoying. I am running Windows 7 with Skype and Windows LifeCam HD-5000 installed. Is there a way to stop this annoying pop-up window from displaying?

Thanks.

I have a LifeCam VX-3000 with the same problem. The solution I found was to rename the file called:

    C:\Program Files\Microsoft LifeCam\IcePick.exe

to something else (e.g., delete IcePick.exe-DISABLE). Thanks to Nick for the tip - see here:

NOTE: other comments there said their offending file was called LcBuddy.exe.

I installed the last version of Live Essentials. But, now a new type of pop up window (Live Essentials login window) starting appearing regularly. It would not accept login credentials. So, I uninstalled and removed the LifeCam. The LifeCam is Microsoft product, and so they should have done a better job in ensuring such silly pop up errors don't appear.

Instead I installed a new Webcam from Logitech and everything is fine. Essentially I would suggest everyone to stay away from Microsoft LifeCam.

I have not made any changes to the computer aside from regular Windows Updates. The LifeCam has been installed for quite some time without any issue. As far as LifeCam settings I am not sure what specific setting you had in mind. There are not many options available in the LifeCam settings anyway.

I used the link that you provided to update the driver, but the issue still remains. I don't use Windows Messenger nor I have Windows Essentials installed. I do have Office 2010 installed.

    Thanks.
