The March download of the above is failing to install every day.

I have the updates set to automatic.

In January KB890830 did install but it is not now on the update history

Why is this problem occurring & how do I install?

You can download the Malicious Software Removal Tool manually from here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/890830#bookmark-dlc

Scroll down to the paragraph called Microsoft Download Center and you'll find a download link there.

KB890830 is the Malicious Software Removal Tool.

The Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool helps remove malicious software from your computers that are running Windows 10, Windows 8.1, Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows 8, Windows Server 2012, Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2008, or Windows XP.

Microsoft releases a new version of the Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool every month. After you download the tool, the tool runs one time to check your computer for infection by specific prevalent malicious software (including Blaster, Sasser, and Mydoom) and helps remove any infection it finds.

    Extract from: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/890830

These downloads run and an entry should be recorded in the Windows Update History. To check select the keyboard shortcut Win+X, Control Panel, Windows Update, View, Update. If the update fails double click the failed update and post the Failure Code.

When you refer to the update history are you referring to View Update history or Installed Updates? No entries are recorded for the Malicious Software Removal Tool in Installed Updates.

Have tried to manually d/load as previous poster suggested, but when I get to the point "Do you want M/soft to make changes to system" nothing happens.

I've now been into "Control Panel/View Update History" & the error code is 80004005

Looking at Installed Updates KB890830 is not showing as installed

    Gerry,

Forgive me but I'm a very cautious person who does not give out data.

However, my other problem is that after M/Soft updates that require a "Restart" when I click on the restart button nothing happens, even after 1 hour I get the message that m/c is restarting.

The only way to clear this is to turn of the power, which is what I have just done, having carried out a "restart" to see if it solves the problem.

I have been told that this restart problem is connected to problems within 8.1, correct?

Also would the failure to install KB890880 be connected with the restart problem?

    John

Please restart your computer and allow 20 minutes for the system to run before uploading information required to help me investigate your problem. When examining Event Viewer log files many, not all, problems show in the period immediately after the computer has been booted.

Please provide a copy of your System Information file. To access your System Information file select the keyboard shortcut Win+R, type msinfo32and click OK . Place the cursor on System Summary. Select File, Export and give the file a name noting where it is located. Click Save**.Do not place the cursor within the body of the report before exporting the file.** The system creates a new System Information file each time system information is accessed. You need to allow a minute or two for the file to be fully populated before exporting a copy. Please upload the file to your OneDrive, share with everyone and post a link here. Reports in normal mode preferred. Please say if the report has been obtained in safe mode. If the report is in a language other than English, please state the language.

Please upload to your OneDrive and share with everyone a copy of your System log file **** from your Event Viewer and post a link here. Please remove any earlier copies of the logs from your OneDrive.

To access the System log select the keyboard shortcut Win+R, type eventvwr.msc and press the ENTER key. From the list in the left side of the window select Windows Logs and System. Place the cursor on System, select Action from the Menu and Save All Events as (the default evtx file type) and give the file a name. Do not provide filtered files. Do not place the cursor in the list of reports before selecting Action from the menu. Do not clear logs whilst you have a continuing problem.

Please upload to your One Drive and share with everyone a copy of your Application log file **** from your Event Viewer and post a link here. Please remove any earlier copies of the logs from your OneDrive.

To access the Application log select the keyboard shortcut Win+R, type eventvwr.msc and press the ENTER key.
