"Microsoft Games for Windows Marketplace" services closed down in 2013, although I'm pretty sure LIVE services still work on PC games despite all claims about them pulling the plug, but I can only find comments about live still working from posts dating back
to roughly 10 months from me posting today.
I've tried to launch it and every time I try to get into LIVE I get errors.
I deleted my profile on the PC to attempt to re-link it and the system keeps telling me my ID doesn't exist or the password is wrong -and I've multi checked the later and logged into my account via web several times now.
The prior instructions claim that a new account needs to be created. It doesn't make sense that we would have to create a new account though, because we can't have another account tied to the same e-mail aside the one that already exists. If the software is
in fact that particular, then it is just sad.
However, when I went and clicked the "Network Information" on the pop-up telling me my account doesn't exist, I found interesting information. Apparently for Internet IP Address it says I'm not signed in,, so System Link Address also says the same, as well
as UPnP. Then again, I haven't played a game requiring Games for Windows LIVE since months before the stated time that they say that they shut down the Marketplace service, so I can't be certain that it is is because the services are not establishing a link
due to my side or their side being at fault.
As such, it appears that unless some 3rd party entity potentially released a work around, there is no saving progress in the game anymore.
As of the current moment, the only way to enjoy Viva Pinata with saves seems to be purchasing an XBOX ONE and then "Rare Replay" (MSRP of 29.99 USD for NA release) physical or digital copy, which includes:
Atic Atac (Spectrum)
Banjo-Kazooie (N64 - XBLA version included)
Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts (Xbox 360)
Banjo-Tooie (N64 - XBLA version included)
Battletoads (NES)
Battletoads Arcade
Blast Corps (N64)
Cobra Triangle (NES)
Conker's Bad Fur Day (N64)
Digger T. Rock (NES)
Grabbed by the Ghoulies (Xbox)
Gunfright (Spectrum)
Jet Force Gemini (N64)
Jetpac (Spectrum)
Jetpac Refuelled (XBLA)
Kameo: Elements of Power (Xbox 360)
Killer Instinct Gold (N64)
Knight Lore (Spectrum)
Lunar Jetman (Spectrum)
Perfect Dark (N64 - XBLA version included)
Perfect Dark Zero (Xbox 360)
R.C. Pro-Am (NES)
R.C. Pro-Am II (NES)
Sabre Wulf (Spectrum)
Slalom (NES)
Snake Rattle N Roll (NES)
Solar Jetman (NES)
Underwurlde (Spectrum)
Viva Piñata (Xbox 360)
Viva Piñata: Trouble in Paradise (Xbox 360)
I would need to verify that they actually allow saving to the system though on XBOX ONE before considering buying into an XBOX one and that physical copy.
If it wasn't for the fact that Viva Pinata for PC was for some reason designed purposely to only save files to cloud, we wouldn't be in this mess. I don't have any faith in them to actually release a fixed or updated port that actually saves to PC though, granted
the PC version was a port of the XBOX 360 version in the first place.
