Learning the "Net Start" command

So I'm messing around with the command prompt using the "net start" command just to learn how it works and when I try to start a process that isn't running(according to my services applet) it indicates that the requested service has already been started. Any idea why?

As a test I used the "Work Folders" service as it seemed relatively innocuous.

Also, after seeing that it didn't "start" the service in the services tab, I right-clicked and hit start, and voila, it showed as running. At this point I tried the "net stop" command as "net stop work folders" and I received an error message stating "The syntax of this command is: " followed by the syntax that matched what I typed.

Any input is appreciated. Again, this is simply me trying to learn about these commands.
