Original question:

I've got a random Amazon KFAUWI device showing up on my network as a device beside my driver for my router. Can anyone help? I am sure it is not a device in my house, as everything is set to something we've done or one of our names. Can anyone tell me if i'm stupid or if this is a general happening?

Read this link and you know how to get rid of it.

This is not really a security problem.

THIS is cyber infiltration by nefarious entities.  This just 'DOESN'T HAPPEN" its cyber war.  Since we don't hear from Microsoft, they must be complicit.  FBI, CIA, NSA (+ FCC) seem to be quietly collecting this information so they will have an excuse for NOT ACTING!

I assume you're mocking conspiracy theories and theorists.  Good job!

Some more detailed explanation of what is happening:

I have come across the same issue on multiple networks, both as phantom Computers and phantom Phones.

It is caused by a combination of WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup Config) setting on your router and (Windows Connect Now - Config Registrar) service on your PC.

Disabling either will make the phantoms go away (ie stop showing up in Widows explorer).  I suggest disabling both especially if you are not using them.  Most security-conscious people/experts will recommend turning off WPS for pure security reasons anyway.

The following link gives a good detailed explanation of the issue.

    https://appuals.com/fix-unknown-strange-devices-showing-network/

It should only show up if you have an active windows WiFi adapter since this is a WiFi device trying to locate a WiFi network with WPS.   Since your router is not allowing it to establish a connection it will not be seen on your Ethernet network.

Without an enabled WiFi adapter, windows will not even start the WPS config service.

Don't worry about not seeing it in the router it only briefly contacts router just trying to locate a WiFi network with WPS.  It's windows that keeps showing it.

If you look you will see these devices are not on your network they have no IP address or other details.  They are simply devices with mac addresses out in the ether looking for available WPS networks they can connect to.  If you do not use WPS they will not connect.

actually I never thought I could actually help someone but somebody told me it was people looking for a hotspot connection a safe one and that’s why it doesn’t show up actually with a IP address it’s just a MAC address because they’re searching for a secure wifi connection and they said if you turn off your WPS you wouldn’t get you wouldn’t see those anymore. No I’m just calling somebody that answered my question which was the very same question that I asked Microsoft community not that long ago.

It's spyware.  It was inputting ADs at the top of all my Google search results.  Stopped immediately after stopping and disabling "Windows Connect Now" service.

Type "services.msc" into Windows search bar and hit enter.

    Find "Windows Connect Now" Double-Click

    Click "Turn Off"

    Click "Disable"

    Click "Ok"

Trace IP to person creating software.

Find and beat to death with pipe.

    Fixed.

Mine displayed with the "Karmak" identifier - no IP, no MAC. It was making me insane. This solution stopped it. Now I need to find a pipe. (Thank you)
