ok... well... it's like I'm asking how to ride a bike and you're telling me to move my arms in and out. I appreciate the help but it's not what I need.
Windows 10 a mess every morning. Not sleeping but slow to resume. What's happening overnight?
I've got an older HP EliteDesk Gen2 I think, works great otherwise but every morning when I start my day, it's a complete mess. I have dual monitors and I've completely disabled sleep and hibernation modes via reg keys and custom power profiles. Sleep has always been a mess with Windows so I've just learned to disable it unless I'm on a laptop.
I have my screens set to turn off after a few hours and throughout my work day, things act fairly normally. If the screens turn off, I can wiggle the mouse or hit a key on the keyboard and things return to normal. It's a little slow to return but it's reliable.
In the morning, however, things are different. I wiggle the mouse to "wake" the computer (even though it shouldn't be sleeping) and it takes significantly longer to wake up and when it does, only one of my screens turns on and the desktop is a total mess. The background is a blank blue or black and after about 30 seconds, the taskbar appears but with no icons. The fan spins up as if its thinking really hard about something. I usually have to restart the computer or opening task manager via CTRL-ALT-DEL to restart windows explorer.
I've checked the event logs and can see activity overnight at 2, 3, 4am, etc. so I don't think it's sleeping but it acts like its sleeping.
Anyone have ideas about what might be happening overnight that is different from when it sits for a few hours during the day?
thanks,
Dan

2022-01-27T17:30:11+00:00 Hi Carlo, thank you for the reply but the steps above are all related to sleep but what I'm trying to do is prevent the device from sleeping completely. Specifically, I'm trying to troubleshoot why it can't make it through the night without Windows Explorer being a mess every morning. I don't want the computer to sleep, so I don't want to restore the default power schemes. I have sleep disabled so the option to enable fast start up does not exist in the place you referenced. I don't have any issues with the mouse not waking the computer and as far as I know, there are no issues with the wifi adapter.
Again, I have sleep completely disabled so I don't believe the computer is sleeping overnight. But something is happening overnight that causes the computer to be unusable in the morning. This doesn't happen when I let the computer sit for 3-5 hours during the day. But when it sits overnight, when I wiggle the mouse to turn the screen on in the morning, Windows Explorer is unusable and I have to restart it. Most of my apps are OK, except Windows Mail was frozen this morning. I just have to use task manager to restart Windows Explorer and things are more or less OK (besides having to re-arrange all my Windows for the dual screen setup)
Any ideas on how I could figure out what's happening to Windows Explorer in the middle of the night but not during the day?
