Windows 11 Search, Store and Feedback is not working at all

Hi,

I have worked with all versions of Windows. Last month I traded in my 15 year old Quad Core Windows 10 secondary computer for a new 12 gen Intel i7 processor that comes with the new Windows 11. I never had any problems with my old computer and Windows 10 ran smoothly on it.

The first week everything was fine, the second week I started installing all my apps, Visual Studio, Office 365, some apps I had bought from the Windows Store, some little old tools that I use very often. and some free applications like Windows Power Tools, Winrar or VLC. The next day when I turn on the computer, I can't use search in the menu, I can't use Cortana, and I can't search for files in explorer.

I thought it might be related to some configuration, so I searched the Knowlodge database for solutions. Rebuild search index, run various Powershell commands, Run System File Checker and DISM tool, SFC, clear search history, restart search services, run Windows troubleshooter (found a problem, asked to reboot as administrator, fixed the problem but still not working). I tried to reinstall the from the Windows ISO (without losing documents and applications) but nothing changed, except a new folder Windows OLD.

Ok, I can live with that. maybe an update soon will fix it. But the next update and the Windows Store stops working. I searched, found some solutions, rebooted, ran the troubleshooter, and Windows Store can open, but it crashed when trying to install apps. If the APP is free the first time it crashes when I click GET, and the second time I can click INSTALL and get it, but if APP is not free it opens a blank dialog (to confirm the bought I suppose), and it close without show nothing and I can't buy the app.

I found out today that I can't send feedback when the troubleshooter ends. It opens the dialog, but before you start typing, the page is closed. It's a bit frustrating that a new Windows computer works like a cheap Chinese free app.

And the latest problems are that today is the third time that Windows 11 crashes and restarts. The first time I thought it was an update that forced a reboot, the second time I checked the log and found some errors, and today it happens again. It's not very often, 3 times in a month of 12 hours of working with Windows, but never happened with Windows 10 and my old computer in years of running 24 x 7.

I have McAfee antivirus installed and tried to stop it to check if it is related to it. I created a new local account as an administrator and search works here, but my primary account is linked to my Microsoft email account and I don't want to work on a local account. Anyway, I don't know if I install something else, this account will also lose searchability.

Once after several notices from Information about the Zune database (not sure if it's related)

Video.UI (28916,D,2) {8D96DA7C-7919-427D-AC15-44DC711F247D}: Tla versión de formato de la base de datos [C:\Users\XXXX\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.ZuneVideo_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalState\Database\1b823e34aeac8828\tmp.edb] reverts to 8920 (0x22d8) due to the application parameter setting of 0x410022D8 (8920 | JET_efvAllowHigherPersistedFormat). Current default engine version: 9400 (0x24b8).

And Search begin to work again, Hellas, but only until the next restart of the computer

My Windows version is 21H2 (22000 493 compilation).

Sorry for the text in Spanish but my computer is setting in Spanish and I translated the error information.

It's a pity that Microsoft launch to the market an OS as unestable. I worked as tester for MS and never see something similar.

Thanks!

    Germanico -

On Dell the Dell Support Assist or Dell Update app should be installed on your PC to handle regular driver updates automatically. If you don't find or can't open and run either then let me know and I'll provide you downloads.

    WINDOWS 11 STORE FIXES:

I'll give you everything else possible that works to fix the Store, based on helping to fix it daily for years here. Even if you've tried a step, please do it over in this sequence:

    1. Try updating Store apps: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/account-bil...
    2. Right click on the time and date in the far right corner of the taskbar. Choose Adjust Date and time settings, at the top make sure the time is correct. If it’s wrong, manually adjust it and make sure the sliders for Set time automatically and Set time zone automatically are set to on.
    3. Reset the Store app using all four options here: https://www.elevenforum.com/t/reset-uwp-app-to-...
    4. Type Services in Search box, run Services app as Administrator, open Windows Update Service and Background Intelligent Transfer Service and Stop both.

Press “Windows (flag) key + R,” copy and paste C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\ press the Enter button. This folder has all the files related to Windows updates.

Open the “Download” folder, select and delete all the files.

Restart Windows Update and Background Intelligent Transfer services in Services app by opening both and choosing Start.

    1. Try running the Windows Store apps Troubleshooter in Windows Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other Troubleshooters
    2. Type CMD in Search box, Run CMD as administrator, type WSReset.exe and hit Enter. Or in the Search type wsreset.exe select Run as administrator.
    3. If that fails to fix the problem go to Windows Settings > Apps > Apps & Features to highlight Microsoft Store, choose Advanced Options, then Reset. After it resets, restart PC.
    4. Clear the LocalCache Folder: Open Run by pressing the Windows key + R hotkey. Copy and paste %localappdata% in Run and click OK. Open Packages> Microsoft.WindowsStore_8wekyb3d8bbwe > LocalCache folder. Press the Ctrl + A hotkey to select all content within the LocalCache folder. Press the Delete button.
    5. Type services.msc in Search box, choose Run as Administrator, from Services tab ensure that Microsoft Store Install Service is started and set to Manual, if not restart PC. Alternative methods to work through the above steps here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WR1fux9Q9O4

    WINDOWS 11 SEARCH FIXES -

First select what you want indexed for fastest searching in Windows 11 and rebuild the index based on those changes, then if the problem persists I'll help you fix Search in the subsequent steps.

Here's how to configure and then rebuild the Index to prepare for fast searches in Windows 11:

    https://www.thewindowsclub.com/how-to-configure...

    https://www.ghacks.net/2021/10/26/how-to-manage...

Once you have everything selected you want to be searched and rebuilt the Index per the above tutorials and it should work now.

If not then try these repairs to fix Search not working in Windows 11:

If you want to go back to Windows 10 then you have ten days to roll it back as shown here:

    https://www.howtogeek.com/751145/how-to-downgra....

If you're unsure and it's still within the 10 day period, you can extend it as shown here:

    https://www.droidwin.com/extend-10-day-windows-...

Based on the results you post back I may have other suggestions if necessary.

    Hi Greg,

No problem, thank you very much for your help.

I tried every solution on your list

    1. I have a DELL PC that comes with a Drivers update system and is under warranty. I ran the update from windows and get a popup that closes immediately (apparently every windows dialog popup closes before showing anything). OK, I went to the DELL page and from the web I checked for updates. It finds 2 drivers that need to be updated and a critical BIOS update. i installed them. Revised driver versions and reboot. The same problem. Search doesn't work and some store APPs crash a minute after launch. The store does not work to install non-free applications.
    2. I run check disk without any problem. I have more than 80% of the disk empty so it finishes very fast. Without errors. Of course, nothing was fixed.
    3. I did it in some of my previous tests, but I check again anyway. No difference. Search also doesn't work with clean boot
    4. I did. First check with my McAfee scan, and then disable McAfee, download Malwarebyes and run a scan again. Everything clean, no threats detected. Without changes
    5. It is the same as the previous one.
    6. This step like 3, I did it before, but anyway, I did it again. No errors, everything was successfully restored. Search, store and popups not working
    7. Like I said, I tried a Windows repair install before. It ends without problems. I go into Windows and check Event Viewer and this is the last error before do anything

After checked Event Viewer, I tried Store, Search, DELL app to check drivers.....anything work. All appears be the same, appears the dialog with the search, the dialog to pay app, the dialog to run the check drivers and after 4 o 5 seconds close (or show in white and remains until I closed it) and let an error on the Event Viewer:

Relative application identifier of the failed package: App

Of course, solutions 8 and 9 are not very attractive for a PC with fewer days of use. Anyway I will have to install everything and maybe some application will do the same thing again. I'm not sure that what is doing the error.

I attached a couple of images. I can't write on the search text box, but when I put the cursor over show me 3 options. Now the Windows Store freexe with the white dialog until I close it.

    Best regards,

My apologies. I was working on my phone and thought I linked you to another thread with the checklist needed here. Here it is:

Go over WIndows 11 with this checklist to find and fix problems. If they don't help and you don't want to reinstall then I'll help you fix Search, Store and Feedback.

    1. Update your drivers from the PC maker's Support Downloads webpage for your exact model. While there check for the latest Chipset, BIOS, Sound, Network, USB3, Bluetooth and all other drivers to compare with the version/date installled for that device in Device Manager reached by right clicking the Start Menu.

If the drivers are not present or not working for Facial Recognition or Fingerprint then contact your PC manufacturer's Support.

    1. Run a full Windows 11 Disk Check: https://allthings.how/how-to-run-chkdsk-in-wind...
    2. Establish a Clean Boot to turn off Startup Freeloaders that can conflict and cause issues:
      https://www.makeuseof.com/clean-boot-windows-11/
    3. Download, install and run a full scan with free Malwarebyes from https://www.malwarebytes.com/mwb-download/ after enabling Root Kit scan in Scan Settings. Clean Up anything it finds and then run again. Turn off Real Time trial in Control panel to keep as on-demand scanner.
    4. Download, install and run a full scan with free Malwarebytes, after enabling Root Kit Scan in its Scan Settings. Clean up anything found. You can turn off Real Time protection on it's control panel to keep MB as the best on-demand scanner: https://www.malwarebytes.com/mwb-download/
    5. Run System File Checker/DISM in WIndows 11:
      https://www.elevenforum.com/t/use-system-file-c...
    6. If that doesn't fix it then you can do a Windows 11 Repair Upgrade which reinstalls Windows while saving your files and apps in place, brings it up to the latest version by the most stable method, takes about an hour and resolves most problems: https://www.elevenforum.com/t/repair-install-wi...
    7. To do a Clean Install follow these guides:

    https://www.groovypost.com/howto/clean-install-...

    https://pureinfotech.com/clean-install-windows-11/

To create Windows 11 bootable installation media, follow the steps from the "Before you Start" link under the Create Installation Media section here:

https://www.microsoft.com/en-in/software-downlo.... I would use an 8gb or larger Flash stick.

With your files backed up and other drives unplugged, restart the PC and press the BIOS Boot menu interrupt key given here:
    https://www.sysnative.com/forums/hardware-tutor...

Boot the media as a UEFI device, skip the Product Key, choose Custom Install, at the drive selection screen choose each partition to Delete until it all is Unallocated Space, select that space and click Next to let Windows create and format the needed partitions - which makes it foolproof.

    1. To go back to WIndows 10 do this gold standard Clean Install which includes everything that works best in Windows 10: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki...

Feel free to ask back any questions. Based on the results you post back I may have other suggestions if necessary.
