Can you display which user has the file open in error message when trying to save a file?

We commonly have issues where more than one user will access a file at once on a shared drive. When the user tries to save the document, they will get an error message that they cannot save the file because another user has it open. Our error message does not show which user has the file open. Can we make it to where the error message will show which user has a file open?

Hi, my name is Anderson Souza, I hope I can help you with your issue.

It won't really be possible to identify in the message the user who is using the file, but you can try using Computer Management on the PC that has the shared folder to identify the user. Open Computer Management (compmgmt.msc) go to Shared Folders > Open Files

There you can list who might be using the file.

There really isn't a native tool in Windows that allows a user to check who is accessing a file that is on a remote computer. You will only get this information on the computer where the file is being shared.

Is there any easy way for the user to see this without having the ability to close the user out of the file themselves? Is computer management the only way they can do that?
