Hi Gibson Favour,
Welcome to Microsoft Community.
If you've forgotten your Windows 11 password and are trying to reset it, but can't find the utilman.exe file, there are a few different approaches you can take. The utilman.exe method is one way to reset the password, but it involves replacing the Utility Manager with a command prompt link, which can be a bit technical and may not always work, especially with newer updates to Windows security.
Here are some alternative methods to reset or recover your Windows 11 password:
- Use Microsoft Account Recovery Options:
- If you are using a Microsoft account to log into Windows 11, you can reset your password online. Visit the Microsoft account recovery page, and follow the instructions to reset your password.
- After resetting your password online, you can use the new password to log into your computer.
- Use a Local Account Password Reset Disk:
- If you created a password reset disk before forgetting your password, you can use it to reset the password of your local account.
- Insert the disk and follow the instructions that appear on the screen when you attempt to log in and fail due to the wrong password.
- Use Safe Mode:
- Restart your PC and boot into Safe Mode.
- In some instances, you might be able to log into an administrative account without a password in Safe Mode and then reset the password for your regular account.
- Use Another Administrator Account:
- If you have another user account on the computer with administrator privileges, log into that account.
- Go to Settings > Accounts > Family & other users.
- Select the account you're locked out of and choose "Change the account type" or "Reset password."
- Perform a System Restore:
- If you have system restore points created before you forgot your password, you can restore your system to that point.
- Keep in mind that this might result in the loss of some data.
- Factory Reset:
- As a last resort, you can perform a factory reset of your PC. This will erase all data on your computer and reinstall Windows, so it should only be done if you have no other options and your data is backed up.
