Sure, here is your refined question to post to the Windows community:

Subject: Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 5 - High Hardware Reserved Memory After Windows Update

Hi everyone,

I recently purchased a Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 5 with 8GB of RAM. Initially, the usable RAM was around 7GB, but after a recent Windows update that failed (I experienced the 'blue screen of death' and after my computer reset, I was able to complete the update), I noticed it has dropped to 5.6GB, with 2.4GB reserved for hardware. I’ve updated the BIOS and all drivers and ensured the BIOS settings are correct, but I still can't reduce the hardware-reserved memory.

Here's what I’ve tried so far:

  • I checked BIOS/UEFI settings, and there are no specific options for adjusting integrated graphics memory.
  • Updated Graphics Drivers: Installed the latest drivers from Intel and Lenovo support websites.
  • Adjusted Virtual Memory Settings: Ensured the paging file size is automatically managed by Windows.

Despite these efforts, the hardware-reserved memory remains high. Does anyone have any suggestions on further steps I can take or settings I might have missed? I'm worried because I’ve spent a lot of money on this computer and need it to function properly for my studies. I don't know what to do.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you in advance!

Hello Panimogerman,

Thanks for reaching out here in the Microsoft Answers Community.

Usually, large amounts of "hardware reserved" memory indicates that part of the memory did not pass the self-check at boot, and being marked as unusable.

Since the memory of the model you have mentioned is soldered on the motherboard, it is likely that there is an issue in hardware or in the pre-installed system (which is customized by Lenovo).

Since it is recently purchased, I recommend contacting Lenovo support regarding the issue, for a warranty repair or replacement.

Thanks for your patience and understanding.

Best Regards,
