My cursor disappears when it switches from an arrow to an I-beam.

When I drag the arrow cursor to a text area, it disappears. If I keep dragging, it reappears as an I-beam after some time. This issue occurs in my VS Code editing panel and browser search box but doesn't happen in Word or Notepad. I tried deleting and reinstalling VS Code and updating my mouse driver, but it didn’t work. However, when I start a screen recording, the issue doesn't appear in the recording.

Hello Jay Odedra,

Welcome to the Microsoft Community.

Thank you for your feedback. Based on your description, you are experiencing an issue with the mouse cursor disappearing. This could be related to your graphics card driver or mouse cursor settings.

You can download and install the latest graphics card driver from the manufacturer's website. For browser-related issues, you can open Edge, type edge://flags in the address bar, search for Choose ANGLE graphics backend, select D3D9 or another option, and then restart the browser to see if the issue persists.

In Visual Studio, you can also modify some rendering settings.

Additionally, you can go to Settings > Bluetooth & other devices > Other mouse options, and change the cursor style in the Pointer Options tab. Since version 24H2 changed the default style, reverting to the previous style beam_r might resolve your issue.

I hope the above information helps. If you have any updates on your issue or have any other questions, feel free to reply to me. I am happy to continue assisting you.Thank you for visiting the Microsoft Community. I wish you good health and a happy life!

Best Wishes,

Thank you for your response. The issue with the latest mouse cursor style is due to some compatibility problems with the renderer, as this style has just been introduced. If the method of modifying the renderer mentioned above does not work, we can only wait for subsequent system and graphics driver updates to resolve the compatibility issues of this cursor style in some applications.

I have already reported this issue. You can also send feedback to Microsoft through the "Feedback Hub" app - Microsoft Support to submit your ideas and suggestions. The development team regularly reviews submitted ideas or fixes.

While reverting to the beam-r style has resolved the issue, I prefer the previous I-beam design. Could you advise if it's possible to retain the I-beam while ensuring the issue remains resolved?

    Thank you for your guidance.

Reverting to the beam-r style has successfully resolved my issue
