Windows Live Captions stuck "Setting up live captions."

Hello,

I recently purchased a new copilot laptop and I'm having trouble with the live voice captioning feature. When I activate the software It asks me "Do you want to set up live captions with translation?" When I click “Yes, continue” I then see the message "Setting up live captions" and a progress animation. It never moves forward from this step. I've let it run for a few hours but nothing changes.

Please help fix this. System info:

    Hi William,

I can set the language to English without any issues, but when I switch to Traditional Chinese, it gets stuck again.
Is there a solution to fix this?

    Regards,

    Kanu

    Hello,

Thanks for trying to help with this. I created a restore point on my computer and then tried to install the package that you linked. After installing the package the Live Caption application no longer opened. When activating the live captions the screen would flash white as it appeared the program was trying to open. After a few seconds the program would automatically close. I tried to roll back to my earlier restore point, but this did not fix the error.

I went ahead and reinstalled windows, And this did restore the functionality to the application. But it's still getting caught on “setting up captions.”

I have had the same problem with a brand new ASUS Vivobook laptop. Live Captions simply won't enable and goes into an endless loop when trying to enable. I get no response from Microsoft or Asus. I'm learning Swedish and moving there for 18 months, so this feature is one of the primary reasons I bought a copilot+ laptop. I'm now looking at the option to return it after spending hours of troubleshooting this issue.

Do you also have a so-called Copilot+ PC?

I have AMD Ryzen AI PC, and am stuck with this problem with English (US): "Setting up live captions ---"

I can see regular captions if I switch to English (UK).

I have also tried a clean install but ran into the same problem.
