I have been trying to download Roblox on my ASUS PC It's specs are a 64 bit Intel(R) Pentium(R) N4200 running at 1.1 GHz, with 4 GB of DDR3 memory, 465 GB HDD, and Windows 10 Home Build 1803. I get a error to upgrade to upgrade to Windows 10 Build 1809 RS5, I tried Windows 10 Update Assistant, and updating it normally, but every time I try, it errors when I finish updating. Can anyone help?

Quick Update : I tried the Media Creation tool and it worked this time. I am now on build 22H2. Sorry about the late reply.

Also, Windows version 22H2 is at Preparing to install - 100%, but it won't install. Maybe try Build 2004? I have tried all of the ones you requested. It still doesn't want to update. Media Installer worked fine, until it crashed for no apparent reason.

Given your ASUS X541N's specifications, the update failures are likely exacerbated by the slow hardware. Here's a refined approach focusing on the most effective solutions:

    Prioritize Disk Space and Optimization:

Absolute Critical: Ensure you have at least 20-30 GB of free space on your C: drive. Windows updates often require a significant amount of temporary space for downloading, unpacking, and installing files. Your 465GB HDD is large, but if it's nearing full, it will definitely cause issues.

Disk Cleanup: Run the built-in Disk Cleanup tool (search for it in the Start menu). Click "Clean up system files" and select everything, especially "Windows Update Cleanup" and "Previous Windows installation(s)" (if any are listed). This frees up space and removes potentially corrupted old update files.

Defragment your HDD: While not a solution for corrupted files, a highly fragmented HDD can slow down the update process significantly. Run Disk Defragmenter (search for it) and optimize your C: drive.

    ASUS Specific Driver Check:

Go to the official ASUS Support website.

Enter "X541N" in the search bar.

Navigate to the "Drivers & Utility" section.

    Select Windows 10 (64-bit).

Download and install the latest available drivers for your Chipset, VGA (graphics), LAN (Ethernet), and Wireless (Wi-Fi). BIOS updates are also important but can be riskier if not done carefully. Follow ASUS's instructions precisely if you decide to update the BIOS. Outdated drivers are a very common cause of Windows update failures, especially on older systems or during major feature updates.

Perform an "In-Place Upgrade" using the Media Creation Tool (Highly Recommended for Your Case):

Since direct Windows Update is failing, and you're several builds behind (1803 to 1809+), the most reliable method is an in-place upgrade. This effectively reinstalls Windows 10 (to the latest version, which is currently 22H2) while preserving your personal files, installed applications, and most settings.

Backup First: Even though an in-place upgrade should keep your files, it's critical to back up your important documents, photos, and other data to an external hard drive or cloud storage before starting.

Download the Media Creation Tool: Go to the official Microsoft Windows 10 download page: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-downlo...

Click "Download tool now" under "Create Windows 10 installation media."

    Run the Tool:

    Once downloaded, run the MediaCreationTool.exe.

    Accept the license terms.

Choose "Upgrade this PC now" (this is the key step for an in-place upgrade).

Follow the prompts. It will download the latest Windows 10 version and then start the installation process. This process can take several hours on your X541N due to the slow CPU and HDD. Let it run undisturbed. It will restart multiple times.

Ensure you select "Keep personal files and apps" when prompted.

Why the Media Creation Tool is likely your best bet:

It bypasses potential issues with the standard Windows Update service.

It downloads a fresh, complete installation image, reducing the chance of corrupted update files.

It's designed to handle large version upgrades more robustly than the incremental update process.

    After the Update:

Be Patient: Your laptop will likely be slow immediately after the update as it finishes background tasks, indexes files, and potentially downloads more drivers.

Check for Drivers Again: Even after the in-place upgrade, run Windows Update again (Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > Check for updates) to ensure all the latest drivers and cumulative updates are installed. You can also re-check the ASUS support site for any drivers specifically for the newer Windows 10 build, although the generic Windows 10 drivers often suffice.

Roblox: Once you are on Build 1809 (or more likely, 22H2), Roblox should then install and run.

    Keep us posted.

    Hello Thomas,

I'm Riza an Independent Advisor. Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Community. Let's work on resolving your issue together.

It sounds like you're encountering a common issue where Roblox now requires a more recent version of Windows 10 (Build 1809 RS5 or above) and your system is struggling to update.

Before we proceed with the preliminary check and troubleshooting, sharing this important considerations for your PC.

Performance after Update: While Roblox requires the newer Windows build, your PC's specifications (Pentium N4200 @ 1.1 GHz, 4GB DDR3 RAM, HDD) are quite modest. A newer Windows 10 build might feel even slower on your system.

HDD vs. SSD: The biggest performance bottleneck on your system is likely the HDD. Upgrading to an SSD would dramatically improve overall responsiveness, including boot times, application loading, and general system fluidity. This would also make Windows updates much faster.

RAM: 4GB of RAM is the minimum for Roblox, but for a smooth Windows 10 experience, especially with other applications running, 8GB is highly recommended.

Now focus on resolving your Windows Error:

    Run the Windows Update Troubleshooter:

Go to Start > Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters.

Find "Windows Update" and click "Run."

Follow the on-screen instructions. This tool can often identify and fix common update problems.

    Check Basic Prerequisites:

Internet Connection: Ensure you have a stable and strong internet connection.

Power: If you're on a laptop, make sure it's plugged into AC power.

Administrator Access: Confirm you are logged in with an administrator account.

Disk Space: You have 465GB HDD, which sounds like enough, but ensure you have at least 10-15 GB of free disk space on your C: drive for the update to download and install. You can check this in "This PC." Delete unnecessary files, clear temporary files, or move large files to an external drive if needed.

Clear the Windows Update Cache: Corrupt update files can cause repeated failures.

Press Win + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.

Locate the "Windows Update" service, right-click it, and select "Stop."

    Navigate to C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution.

Delete all files and folders inside this directory. (You might need to grant administrator permissions).

Go back to the Services window, right-click "Windows Update," and select "Start."

    Try updating again.

Disconnect External Hardware: Sometimes, connected peripherals (like external hard drives, printers, etc.) can cause conflicts during updates. Disconnect everything except your mouse, keyboard, and display, then try updating.

Check Date and Time Settings: Incorrect date and time can interfere with update services.

Go to Start > Settings > Time & language.

Ensure "Set time automatically" is enabled and click "Sync now" under "Synchronize your clock."

Run System File Checker (SFC) and DISM: These tools can repair corrupted Windows system files.

Open Command Prompt as an administrator (search for "cmd," right-click, and select "Run as administrator").

Type sfc /scannow and press Enter. Let it complete.

After it finishes, type the following commands one by one, pressing Enter after each:

    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth

    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth

    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Restart your PC after these commands are done and try updating again.

Share your findings so we can evaluate and assess for a more advanced troubleshooting.

    Best Regards,

    RizaP
