Teams occasionally makes an attendee the Organizer, locking me out of the role in the meeting.

Reoccurring Teams Meeting occasionally makes an attendee the Organizer.

Twice this year I have had an issue with a daily Teams meeting making one of my students the Organizer and relegating me to Attendee. I can still edit all the Teams permissions (changing who can bypass the Lobby, etc) but I lose the Organizer role within the meeting.

My only solution so far is to cancel the entire series and start a new Meeting.

Right, but that doesn't fix my issue.

The problem is that a student become the Organizer. Like they have that role.

I am relegated to Attendee with the other students while in the meeting.

I have admin powers over the meeting settings, but inside the Meeting, I am an Attendee and they are the sole Organizer. When I check all Team settings, all is normal. It's making a standard Member the Organizer seemingly at random. It worked for 5 weeks with no problems and today happened.

This is very odd, I suspect either it's a bug or just an intermittent issue.

When you are in a meeting next time please double-check the meeting option once again. Please select (...) > Meeting options, please make sure the correct parameters are set as shown in the screenshot.

Having said that, if the problem still persists let me know, I will assist on how to move forward this issue to MS support.

If the participants are able to unmute themselves, you can "hard mute" them as shown in the following video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rgAfbkASjWM

I have that set as well. The only permission any attendee has is that they can unmute themselves. That's what makes it so strange. I retain Organizer permissions on the settings side, but lose it within an active meeting.

    Hi

My name is Daniel. I am an Independent Advisor.

It's not enough to set the "Who can bypass the lobby?" option, you also need to set the "Who can present?" option as well.

These are the settings that need to be adjusted by the meeting host in order to prevent this issue from happening again.

    • On the "Who can bypass the lobby?" option, Please select only me.
    • On the "Who can present?" option, Please select only me.

Please refer to this article regarding the "meeting options":
