Hi Mahesh,
Thank you for reaching out. My name is Furkaan, a user just like you. I’d be happy to help you with your concerns. There could be a couple of reasons why you can't add an external user to a channel in Microsoft Teams. Here's how to troubleshoot:
Check Permissions:
Make sure you have permission to add guests to the channel. Team owners and members with the "add members" permission can invite external users.
External Access Enabled:
For your organisation, external access for guest users might be disabled by the admin. The IT admin needs to enable external access in the Teams admin centre.
Specific Organisation Blocked:
If the external user's email address belongs to a specific organisation, it might be blocked for guest access. The admin needs to unblock that organisation in the Teams admin centre.
Valid Email Address:
Double-check that you entered the external user's email address correctly.
Here's how to add an external user to a channel if you have permissions:
Open the Teams app and navigate to the specific channel.
Click the three dots (...) next to the channel name and select "Manage channel."
Click on "Members."
Enter the email address of the external user.
Choose "Add [email address] as guest" and then "Add."
The external user will receive an email invite to join the team. Once they accept, they'll have access to the channel (with guest user permissions).
