Upgraded to Windows 11 and now Teams app doesn't work

Two days ago my work laptop was upgraded from Windows 10 to Windows 11 and now the Teams app won't work. We have tried re-installing it 3 times and followed other guidelines, like fixing/repairing the app etc. We have completely uninstalled all the Office apps and re-installed via our 365 account but it still doesn't work. When I click the Teams icon it briefly opens a window for 1 second and then closes. The new Outlook app also does a similar thing, but the classic Outlook app works fine. The other MS Office apps are fine and Teams works via the web.

Any suggestions on how to fix it?

Clearing Teams cache did temporarily work! I was able to briefly open Teams but it closed and now it won't open again! I tried clearing the Teams cache again but that hasn't helped.

There are no MS apps listed in my credentials.

    Anything else I can try??

Thanks for your reply. Your suggestions did not fix the problem. Here are my answers:

    • Have others in the same organization with you reported the same issue?

No, but I was the only one who upgraded to W11.

    • Was Office installed via Microsoft 365 Apps for Business or another method?

It was installed via my online MS 365 business account.

    • Are you connected to a corporate network, VPN, or proxy?

No, I work from home with a normal home internet connection. I did change my internet provider on Monday, but everything worked fine until the upgrade to W11 on Wednesday.

    • Are you using the same Windows user profile as before the upgrade?

    Yes the same user profile.

    • Reset Teams app (I've successfully fixed mine with this)

Done several times, did not fix it.

    • Repair Office Installation

    Done, did not fix it.

My IT support has no idea why it won't work! Do you have any other things I can try?

    Hi Ali,

Thank you for your update. I'm sorry that the issue persists.

Kindly try to create a new Windows profile by adding a new user account to see if it resolves the issue:

    • Go to Settings > Accounts > Family & other users > Add account (under Other users section) > Either enter your email address or choose "I don't have this person's sign-in information" > Follow the prompts to complete adding the new user)

Please refer to this article for step-by-step instructions: Manage User Accounts in Windows - Microsoft Support

Please let me know if it could help.

If none of the above steps work, this issue might need to be investigated by a Technical Support Engineer.

Feel free to reach out whenever there’s an update, I’d really appreciate hearing from you!

    Best regards,

    Hi Ali,

    Thank you for your information!

Some more ways you could try for this issue are:

    • Clear Teams cache:
      • Close Teams: Right-click the Teams icon in your taskbar (near the clock) and choose Quit
      • Open the Run box: Press Windows key + R on your keyboard.
      • Go to the cache folder: In the Run box, type this and click OK
        • %userprofile%\appdata\local\Packages\MSTeams_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Microsoft\MSTeams
      • Delete everything: In the folder that opens, delete all files and folders
      • Restart Teams: Open Microsoft Teams again. It will recreate the necessary files
    • Clear cached credentials:
      • Open Credential Manager in Windows, find your Outlook-related credentials, and remove them
      • Image
    • Uninstall New Outlook and then open Classic Outlook > Switch to New Outlook for it to be reinstalled that way
    • Test on another Windows profile/user

Kindly let me know when there are any updates so I could find additional ways to assist you.

I'll be glad to hear your update!

    • Reset Teams app (I've successfully fixed mine with this)
