Outlook distribution list contact - Couldn't find default email address

Good morning,

The organization has a hybrid AD/AAD setup and we have a couple of contacts that are included in a distribution list set as a group at the AD level. However, when looking at those contacts on the distribution list recipients it says "Outlook couldn't find default email addresses" and the sender gets the following error for each contact: Remote Server returned '550 5.2.0 RESOLVER.ADR.MissingPrimary; recipient primary SMTP address is missing ""'

We made sure that in both AD/AAD the email address of the contact is explicitly set and is set to the same value. It is only affecting certain contacts so we believe it has to do with the recipient mail server.

We also followed the steps in this guide Remote Server returned 550 5.2.0 RESOLVER.ADR.BadPrimary in Office 365 - Exchange | Microsoft Docs and were not able to address the problem.

If someone could provide tips on how to address this it would be appreciated.

Thanks!

    Hello NandoIT,

First, may I double confirm if you directly send emails to that Distribution List or that user?  If you sent the emails to the DL, please directly send to that user with Click To > choose global address book > find that user there and add him to "To" then send out the test email to see if it make any difference, thanks.

Moreover, if the issue persists, to isolate the problem is Outlook Client related or the recipient account, please navigate to Outlook Web App and then see if it make any difference, thanks.

On another hand, if the recipient's mailbox is hosting on Exchange Online, please try to Connect to  Exchange Online PowerShell and then run Get-Recipient xxxx ( the affected user) | FL and then share the full result with me.  Also I'd like to confirm

    1. if the sender is an on-premises mailbox or online mailbox user?
    2. Please share the command result with me.
    3. Do you deployed Exchange Hybrid?

To protect your privacy, I will send you a Private Message (PM) to collect the generated information there, thanks.

    Best Regards,

    Oliver
