My wife forwards her bellsouth.net mail to gmail. When I send email to her bellsouth address the message is forwarded to her gmail account BUT I get the following error message:

Hello Carl Ferguson1, Good morning!Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community. We are happy to help you.Based on the description you have shared; we understand we have some information.

First Confirm if your domain bellsouth.net is healthy ( DNS is set up very well)

Confirm if your DKIM is enabled check your DNS for your website through your domain provider.

if you have set up your domain in Microsoft tenant Here is info on DKIM and how to add it to your DNS https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/security/office-365-security/email-authentication-dkim-configure?view=o365-worldwide

    1. Once you have confirmed your DNS has the correct DKIM settings, you can confirm by going to security.microsoft.com > Policies & rules > Threat policies > Email authentication settings > DKIM . Click the domain and it will show DKIM enabled or not (I think it may take DNS setting several hours to reset so maybe wait a bit before this check).

    3. Go to Google Postmaster Tools https://www.gmail.com/postmaster/ and verify your domain https://postmaster.google.com/managedomains

Reference: Email sender guidelines - Google Workspace Admin Help

Second: The error message you received indicates that the IP address of the email server you are using to send the email does not have a PTR record set up. This can cause issues with email delivery to certain email providers, such as Gmail.

you can contact your email service provider and request that they set up a PTR record for your email server's IP address. Alternatively, you can try using a different email server to send your emails.

We look forward to your reply. This requested information will help us narrow down the scenario and find the right troubleshooting. We will continue to assist you based on the information you provide. I sincerely appreciate your patience and cooperation.

    Sincerely
