A bit of background info: My mum gave me her laptop that she rarely use 3 days ago. I've been having issues with upgrading the windows os 8.1 to windows 10 home edition. The laptop is an Asus model UX302L. This laptop probably hadn't run for more 8 month. After updating, i tried to run the media tool software from the Microsoft website  2 times. The first time it was stuck at updating process for 3 hours, the 2nd time it was stuck at the "making sure you're ready to install part" for 4 hours. The 3rd time I tried installing using the disc and it was still stuck at the "making sure you're ready to install part" again for 4 hours.

    Hi Brinaa,

In some instances, anti-virus software and Unplug extra hardware may hinder the Windows 10 upgrade. As an initial troubleshooting, you may try to disable the virus protection that was installed on your PC and check if it makes any difference.

If the issue still persists, you may check the suggestions of Andre Da Costa from the thread below and apply the recommended procedures.

Nvm I’ve manage to upgrade it succesfully but face a lot of issues after that. I went to my school service centre and they manage to solve most of the issues for me but they say there could be something wrong with my hard disk. Thanks for replying anyways, appreciate your help!

Had this exact same issue... spent over 6 hours trying to fix this by scouring the web for solutions and trying them all.  In the end (while it was still hung), I fixed it by force-quitting the installer, launched the Setup again and changed one thing.  When I was asked whether-or-not I wanted to download the Windows updates first, I chose "No"... the "Making sure you're ready to install" screen lasted less than a minute and then it proceeded to install.  Crazy!  That's all that I changed and it worked.  I hope this information helps others.  Good luck!
