Recently one of my friends asked me about doing a disk scan because their hard disk has reduced functionality and I am asking this on behalf of him.

    Hi Ezra

I am Dave, I will help you with this.

Click the Start Button, then just type cmd

On the resulting list, right click Command Prompt and choose 'Run as Administrator'

Run this command (I have assumed a drive letter of C, you may need to change that)

    chkdsk C: /r

Wait for the command to complete.

If you are running Check Disk on a non system drive, that command will run.

If you are running Check Disk on the System drive, you will be notified that Check Disk cannot run while Windows is running on the drive and asked if you want to run that on a system restart, choose yes (type Y)

    Then restart the PC.
