How do I connect a remote camera to my laptop via WiFi from a WiFi router?

The camera is a Microsoft Lifecam HD-3000 (USB plug)

The OS is Windows 10 pro v22H2

The router is a Asus RT-N12

The camera works fine via USB to laptop

Currently the router is connected to internet via POE injector to a wifi radio mounted outside on top of a stick and the laptop connects to internet via WiFi OR Ethernet cable, without any problems

When I pull the lan cable out of the POE and plug-in the camera, The cam is not being powered up as no led lights up.

The connection between cam and router lan has a USb to RJ45 adapter in between . This adapter works fine also.

So far I have not found a solution on line, hence my question in this forum

Can anyone please help? Many thanks .

    Hi

    Welcome to Microsoft community.

Unfortunately, you cannot directly connect a USB camera to a router using a USB to RJ45 adapter and expect it to work. The Microsoft Lifecam HD-3000 is a USB camera designed to be connected directly to a computer, where it requires drivers and software to operate.

Here are a few possible solutions:

    1. USB over IP: There are solutions like "USB over IP" which allow USB devices to be shared over a network. This involves connecting the camera to a computer, then using software to share the camera over the network. Note that this will require the computer to be on whenever you want to use the camera.
    2. Network Camera Adapter: There are also devices known as "network camera adapters" which can turn a USB camera into a network camera. These devices can be quite expensive and may not work with all cameras.
    3. Wireless USB Extender: Another option could be a wireless USB extender. This would allow you to place your camera at a distance from your computer, with the camera connected to the USB transmitter and the receiver connected to your computer.
    4. IP Camera: If you require a camera to work over your network, the best solution might be to purchase an IP camera. These cameras are designed to work over a network and can be easily connected to your router and accessed from any device on your network.

    Best regards
