Closing a Microsoft Account

When I first got my new Lenovo laptop and set it up I created a Microsoft account (and email).

I'd like to close it now but Microsoft has its scheduled to close 8/8/2024. (that's 30 days from when I set it close)

I really want to remove the email address associated with that account now.

Also, once that account is deleted will I be able to totally clear that email out of my laptop / all apps so it doesn't pop up anywhere?

I also get this screen:

Windows Security

"Google Chrome is trying to fill your password on login.microsoftonline.com"

Then it askes for the PIN and has the email address that needs to be deleted

I see MORE CHOICES and my correct email from the correct Microsoft account - I'm just tired of seeing the wrong one and want it gone!

    Dear Janet Stone1.

Thanks for using Microsoft products and posting in the community.

I apologize for the inconvenience. This may be due to the fact that the account login credentials are still present from previous logins to other programs. You can click on the "Windows" icon, open "Settings" - "Accounts" and delete the account you want to close.

Also, follow the steps below to remove your login credentials.

    1. Press Windows+R to open the run box, copy and paste the following path, back up all the folders in this path and then delete them.

    %localappdata%/Microsoft/OneAuth

    %localappdata%/Microsoft/IdentityCache

    1. Press Windows+R, enter regedit, click OK, open the registry, find the following registry subkey, right-click Identity, and delete it.

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Common\Identity

Disclaimer: Modifying the registry or workgroups is usually geared towards advanced users, administrators, and IT professionals, and it can help fix some problems, however, improper registry modifications can cause serious problems. Therefore, please make sure to strictly follow the steps below. For further protection, make a backup of the registry before modifying it. If the Google Chrome browser prompts frequently, you can follow the steps in the link below to clear your browser cache.

And when you close your Microsoft account, you won't be able to use it to sign in to any Microsoft product or service, including Outlook.com or Hotmail, OneDrive, Xbox, Skype, Office or Microsoft 365, Rewards, and Microsoft Certification.

Thank you for your patience and support and we look forward to hearing from you.
