Dear username77xz,
Welcome to Microsoft Community, we are glad to assist you here.
Based on your description, we understand you have something inquiry about the outlook restart function on widows. We don't have an option to resrat the outlook directly. I suggest you may refer to the methods below to close your outlook instead clicking on "X" directly to close it.
Exit the Outlook Directly.
In your Outlook app’s menu bar, click "File." and then go to Exit to close the outlook. Then you can manually open it again.
Using Task Manager
- Right-click the Start menu and select Task Manager from the menu that appears.
- In the Task Manager window, find Outlook in the list of processes and right-click on it.
- Select End task from the context menu. This will close Outlook forcefully.
Using a Run Command
- Press the Windows key + R on your keyboard to open the Run dialog box. Alternatively, right-click the Start menu and select Run.
- Type outlook.exe /resetnavpane in the box and pressOK. This will reset the navigation pane for your current Outlook profile, forcing the application to restart in the process.
Force close Outlook When the App Is Unresponsive
If your Outlook app is frozen, pleaase go to the task manager, find "Microsoft Outlook," under background process, right-click it, and choose "End Task. "Task Manager will force close your Outlook app.
