Microsoft Edge keeps closing unexpectedly

Microsoft Edge keeps on closing down unexpectedly, which is annoying because I loose unsaved documents or important tabs...

I don't press any x or the big one in the top right corner, (e.g) I start typing and it shuts down!

I use a Windows 10. Do I need to update my computer or do I need to reboot Edge? Or is it something different?

Thanks.

Hi, my name is Neil, I'm an independent adviser and a Windows 10 user like you.

Sorry you're having trouble with Edge closing down on you.

There's a few things we can try, first try this:

It might be because you need to empty your Edge cache.

To do this follow these instructions:

In Edge, click the 3 dots towards the top right of the window and then click on Settings.

Click on "Privacy, search & services" on the left hand side menu.

In the main window area, under Clear Browsing data, click the button "Choose what to clear".

Make sure the first 4 boxes are ticked and then click the "Clear now" button.

When this has done, close down Edge.

Now re-open Edge.

See if your problem has been resolved.

If not, try the following:

In Edge, click the 3 dots towards the top right of the window and then click on Settings.

Click on "About Microsoft Edge" on the left hand side menu and it will check for an update. If there is any available, let it install and then close and re-open Edge and see if your problem has been resolved.

If not, or there was no update for Edge, try the following:

Click on your Start Button and then click the Settings Cog icon.

In Settings, click on Update & Security.

Click the Check for Updates button (even if it says "You're up to date").

If any updates are found, let them install.

Reboot and then go back and check for more updates (again, even if it says "You're up to date").

Only stop when after checking for updates, it comes back and says "You're up to date".

These instructions should resolve your issue.

Let me know how you get on.
