Teams "File open preference" setting reverts to default after a few weeks

I have the E5 license to change the default behavior in Teams for opening a file in the desktop app. But ever since this functionality came out and I changed it, the setting reverts back to the default of opening files in Teams every couple of weeks. I have to go back into Settings and change it back to Desktop app. Not sure if it is related to when Teams updates or not, but I was wondering if this is a known bug?

Hi @Matt

I suppose the cause may be due to Teams cache.
Per my test, once the Teams cache is cleared manually or by other methods, this setting would be reverted to Teams.

I do not ever manually clear the Teams cache. What automatic process would be doing that to cause my settings to revert like they do?

Plus, I would think that most users would want this setting to persist once they changed it. It's very annoying to have to go back and update it regularly. If the cache clearing is indeed the cause, can that bahavior be changed so that the setting doesn't revert?

I suppose it may possibly be due to the Teams update process.

As it is indicated that the setting would only work on the current device, the setting may be stored in the Teams local cache, thus clearing the cache would revert it to the default setting.
Teams may need to redetect that Office software is installed and activated on this device, which are available to use to open files with.

I have the same issue - this reply is likely shows where the issue is, but does not propose a solution. Any suggestions as to how to resolve the issue?

Still an issue more than a year later. Constantly changes from Desktop to Browser.
