Hello!

I am using SCOM 2019 for receiving Traps from Network Devices.

I have installed it like https://kevinholman.com/2015/02/03/snmp-trap-monitoring-with-scom-2012-r2/

The Host receiving the traps is installed correctly

netstat -ano | findstr "162"
  UDP    0.0.0.0:162            *:*                                    6400
  UDP    [::]:162               *:*                                    6400

tasklist /fi "PID eq 6400"

Image Name PID Session Name Session# Mem Usage
========================= ======== ================ =========== ============
MonitoringHost.exe            6400 Services                   0    279 080 K

SNMP Service is not running. --> should i deinstall it?

In Wireshark I see that the Traps are received.

But in SCOM console I don't see the Events.

I have read a lot of articles, but I don't know where the problem is.

Firewall is open

    Hi @Hansi ,

    the cause could be that your resource pool contains two members. Are those 2x management servers both configured according to the article?
    If not then this can explain why you sometimes receive traps and sometimes not.
    Can you please try with only one server as Kevin suggests:

    Next, I create a network monitoring resource pool in SCOM. I want to lock down which management server I will use to receive traps, and to lock this to a single management server for any troubleshooting.

    How does it look then? Do you get them?

    Only one server in a resource pool is active at any given time, which means that if you're sending traps to only one of the servers they will show up in SCOM console only when that server is active.
    So you have two options : send the traps to both servers (if your snmp devices support sending traps to multiple servers) or, as Stoyan mentioned, use a single server in the resource pool.

    Hello!

    OK the Problem are the two Servers in Resourcepool.

    So I have a Problem now. For High Availability for active montitoring with snmp-get need two Servers in Resourcepool

    So I have two Discoveries. One for Server1 the other for Server2. But both Discoveries have the same ResourcePool for active monitoring.
    242464-2022-09-19-11-05-27-network-devices-discovery-wiza.png

    here are the discovered objects:
    242409-2022-09-19-11-09-03-network-devices-mis-operations.png

    So I have to send the traps to each SCOM-Server in Resourcepool.

    But is their a possibility to find out the active SCOM-Server listening for traps.?

    Hi,

    this can help you out:

    How can we tell which server is the active resource pool member?
    https://www.catapultsystems.com/blogs/how-can-we-tell-which-server-is-the-active-resource-pool-member/

    You need to separte the two requirements - SNMP monitrong of devices (SNMP Get), where you need a ressource pool and SNMP trap monitoring where you get the traps sent to your management server.
    In case of SNMP traps You will need one dioscvery rule, run by one management server and pon this same management server you need to complete all configurations listed by Kevin!
