Cannot move Taskbar to top after Windows 22H2 Update

I just updated to Windows 11 version 22H2. It does not allow the registry HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\StuckRects3 value change to '01.' After restarting Windows Explorer the registry value keeps returning to '03' and the Taskbar remains on the bottom.

I've had my Taskbar on top for the last several Windows versions, and the registry value change worked up to this last Windows update.
Any way to force the registry change?

Please let me know if you find any workaround for this that uses the Win11 taskbar (not the old win10)

Same issue on this side. - MS please update to fix this or at least allow the registry entry to continue functioning.
I have had my start menu positioned at the top since I became a windows user.

+1 on the opinion that moving taskbar to top is a highly required convenience feature. @Microsoft Windows team, please bring it back!

I've worked in IT for many years, and like so many, I've had a love-hate relationship with Microsoft. Awesome innovation mixed with unfathomable decisions. There may have been a technical reason to disallow people from using a reg hack to make the taskbar look and behave the way users want, but it increasingly feels like MS has contempt for its users. Why would you disallow something that literally every other GUI-equipped OS has? And for that matter, how hard would it have been to allow users to pick their favorite menu system from XP on up? If third-party developers can make stable packages to do this, and for free no less, why not MS? Why is it so hard to take user preferences into consideration when developing a GUI? To some degree you're creating a "piece of... art", but usability should always come first. GM doesn't suddenly decide the brake and accelerator pedals should be transposed because they think it looks cooler..

Agreed + upvote. I tried ExplorerPatcher ( https://github.com/valinet/ExplorerPatcher/releases ), which worked in a previous release, but now does not work (it runs, then is terminated and Windows Explorer restarts and resumes control). OpenShellSetup at https://github.com/Open-Shell/Open-Shell-Menu/releases/latest has some good Taskbar customizations, but does not let you move the taskbar left/right/top. Finally, the registry change at https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/1029306/cannot-move-taskbar-to-top-after-windows-22h2-upda did not work for me.

Seriously, Microsoft, the PHYSICAL placement of our taskbar is HUGE. It's muscle memory. How would you like if we came into your fancy offices and physically relocated your mouse or keyboard to an inconvenient position, and bolted it in place? Not cool, right? So why would you do this after decades of freedom?

(BTW; I must use Win11 because it's a work computer. Disappointing, Microsoft!)

Using registry to do it was unsupported scenario and generally you won't be able to move taskbar.

It is unfortunate that MS won't restore the Taskbar moving functionality. While I understand the registry mod was 'unsupported,' it did work on Win 10 up through the version prior to 22H2.

Has there been any explication as to why they discontinued this very useful feature ?
Since Windows 3 I have had my taskbar on top of screen. Now even stopping being able to use registry is just petty !
It forever seems they just do such things to prove they have been working rather than trying to improve the OS

This is crazy! I already was upset after this happened with the 1st change to Windows 11 and fixed it. Then this new update not allowing it to be moved is making it worse. I tried to go back to Windows 10 many times but it said I couldn't. I so unhappy with this software right now.

Open Start Menu, Type Feedback Hub > Open

Next, from Feedback Hub window open the Feedback Tab, Search: Taskbar on Top. Upvote all the appropriate Problems/Suggestions.

What exactly will that do though? The main thread for this feature request in Feedback Hub has thousands of upvotes (which doesn't really reflect the scale of the issue as upvotes are removed if the user reverts to Win10) and an official "response" posted over a year ago and yet there still hasn't been any movement whatsoever on this critical feature. It seems all Microsoft is doing to address the issue is post trite "Thank you for your feedback, we value you" type responses. It's clear Feedback Hub posts do Sweet FA, otherwise this would be a solved problem.
With regards to registry hacks being unsupported, if you can't make your product work properly, don't get surprised when people break it in the process of attempting to fix it.

Yes MS sucks in its optimisations, trying to cheat on people. I was happily living with Windows XP, but I am pushed to newer versions, just because of other applications. MS uses all sorts of levers to pressure the move to a new version under its own conditions, including paying others software companies

Hi,

Microsoft restricted this feature by allowing user to keep the taskbar only in the bottom of the screen.

You can see and read the following article from Microsoft,

When upgrading to Windows 11 from Windows 10 or when installing an update to Windows 11, some features may be deprecated or removed.

Taskbar is changed including: Alignment to the bottom of the screen is the only location allowed.

You can write the feedback to rollback this desired option using Feedback hub app,

I Cannot move W11 Taskbar on top or right side ! For God sake I did pay for this software ! and Microsoft deny my customer rights.
