If you change the UPN ( and that is what is being asked yes?)
then you have to be aware of how that could impact their logons, access to some SAML/SSO apps and access to OneDrive etc...
There is no tool other than renaming the object in AD and letting it sync.
Changing the Display Name wont have any real effect, but if you change the UPN on-prem, then be aware of the following:

[Lastname] - Is there a tool to change a lastname after marriage/divorce on 0365 + Hybrid AD (AD + Azure AD)
Hello,
I have a user who recently got married but the question can be also good for somone that get divorced.
We use :
- Office 365
- Hybrid AD (AD + Azure AD)
- EndPoint + Enrolled device
We would like to know if there is a native tool or something else to change lastname for a user.
I know there is the "rename" option on AD, but I would like to know, what will be the consequences of it ? And on what we should be very carefull.
The best situation should be:
- The user displays its new name (But can be still search by the new AND former one through Teams or Outlook)
- No broken connection (except to re-enter the credential) between OneDrive or other permissions given on other tool. (I presumed it keeps its own ID)
We are on differents countries in the world and the countries have their own legal side for this part.
Any advice on it ?
Regards.
