[Word 2016] is it possible to disable the new spelling & grammar checker format ?

Because this new format is slowing down badly my 700 pages word document. Every action I take are delayed by a lag due to this checking.
Also, it takes ages to use a correction (yes, less clicks indeed, but more loading time for suggestions to appear).
Finally, sometimes it loading the pop up for suggestions despite I didn't want to. I guess I just clicked on a word. Before I had to right click and could choose when I wanted to be offered possible corrections. Now, I'm slowed down there again because of this unwanted loading time.

So, any way to revert and come back to the previous checking system, please (actually, i'm begging) ?

You can make use of a macro to get back the "classic" Spelling and Grammar dialog box. See https://addbalance.com/word/spell_check_dialog_instead_of_editor.htm#PageStart.

    Hi, @Mike
You can uncheck these boxes in word-options-proofing.

I was expecting this answer but my bad, my question was confusing and I couldn't find an edit button to remove any misunderstanding in my question.

So yes, this is what I have done in the meantime. But my goal is to both have those checks and not have the loading times. The only possible solution I see is to have the former checking system, before the update (do you remember it ?) instead of the current one.

So does Microsoft offer a way to choose the format of checking we want ?
If not, am I the only one complaining about the new format ?
And in worst case scenario, is there a way to downgrade, ie force a load of the previous version of the software ?

    Thanks a lot.

    Hi, @Mike
Word can't switch the checking mechanism, and one suggested method, as you said, is to roll back the version of Office.

In addition, you can only use the apps in Office 2016 if you buy Office 2016. If you need to use Word 2013, you need to buy it separately.

I dont know what version my Office 2016 is. Let's say it v2.35.05

Is there a way to downgrade to v2.35.04, ie the one just before this f** update ? Without downgrading (and buying) Word 2013 ?

In the meantime, I raised the question with the link you gave me, thanks.
