Edge Enterprise installation without folder EdgeCore

Hello,

I'm trying to understand, why during installation Edge for Enterprise (on WIndows Server 2016) there is EdgeCore folder, I have separated installation of WebView.

I have the same installation on Windows Server 2012R2 and there is only Edge and EdgeUpdate folder, without EdgeCore.

How I can install Edge for Enterprise without EdgeCore?

Hi @Olga

AFAIK, the files in EdgeCore folder are shared between the browser and WebView products owned by Microsoft to save disk space across products using the same binaries. I think it's by design that Edge is installed with EdgeCore folder in certain OS. We can't control folder creation in Edge installation, and it's not recommended to remove any file in Edge installation folder.

Hi @Yu Zhou-MSFT thank you for the answer. This is actually not help to save space on the disk because I don't understand, why EdgeCore folder is needed if I have separate installation of Edge WebView2 on the server. From my perspective, if I have separate WebView2 then Edge should not be creating EdgeCore folder and Webview files there during the installation.

Unfortunately there us no senseble MS article about it and also nowhere mentioned, that the same version of Edge will not create EdgeCore folder on W2012 R2 but create on W2016. This product doesn't look like ready but very raw. For Google Chrome there are lot of information and Google support is very helpful when explaining their product.

I can totally understand that you have doubts with EdgeCore and it is true there's no related Microsoft documentation about EdgeCore. I think only Edge product team can provide a full explanation about what EdgeCore does.
