Can I have Windows10 index PST files which I have configured as Data Files in Outlook 2019 but which are located externally on my NAS? When I try to search in one of the PST files (which are physically located externally on my NAS) Outlook only does a slow manual search so it is evident that the PST files are not being indexed even though I have configured them as Outlook Data File resources. Thank you.

That is an unsupported configuration which can indeed result in the pst-file not getting indexed due to performance issues.

Consider keeping your pst-file on your local disk and write backups of the pst-file (a simple file copy suffices) to your NAS.
