Cannot Assign Color Category in Outlook Calendar

Question

I just received a laptop with Windows 11 Home Edition and Outlook 2021. When I attempt to create a calendar entry (meeting or announcement), I cannot specify a category color (it is not an option). If I try to check permissions under "Properties", all I see is a "General" tab. My laptop was Windows 10 Pro with Outlook 2016 and I could create or modify any Calendar entry and apply a color category. Is this a limitation under Windows Home Edition? If not, why can I not apply a color category to the entry?

Hi @Jim ,

If you are using Outlook with an IMAP account, you cannot assign categories to an item. The IMAP email account type does not support categories.
To work around it, it is recommended you add your account as pop3 account. More information, see: You can't assign color categories for IMAP accounts in Outlook 2016

I do not know did I understand clearly, but for instance in IMAP you can't use categories because that kind of serwer do not suport that. That works local on POP and Exchange with server sunchronization. That not office or windows version case, but account type you add to Mail client Application (as Outlook).

Anyway you can call switched off creator to assigned category do object (mail, contact or meeting) and add this field to folder view.
Creator has a interface to set any test and use some color. You can set color twice or many, but that no make sens to me.
That information will save locally nad you can filter or sort your mail via this field.

To use it easy, I build Addin to Categories to that account and going farther using follow ups.
