Network Connection Logging on Windows 10

Question

I'm trying to troubleshoot a nagging intermittent network issue on a Windows 10 laptop, and I'd like to know which tools or methods I can use to gather information to diagnose and fix the issue.

We use a 3rd party VPN client which passes all of our internet traffic through the tunnel while connected. According to the VPN client-side logs, a route change sometimes occurs during use and then the internet is inaccessible. The user then disconnects the VPN and access to the internet is restored.

Does anyone have any recommendations for isolating an issue like this? Are there useful Event Viewer logs or diagnostic tools to try?

Wireshark or a similar tool comes to mind.
