In the general tab of an activity there is Retry which can be set to a number but the default is 0.
I am not sure what this is used for.
Is it that if this activity in the pipeline fails then it retries again up to a number you put in there hoping that the next time it executes then it succeeds if failed previously?

Yup, what you thought is correct but even after the number of retry attempts, the activity failed, the pipeline fails
