How long has it been since you removed the domain from the original tenant? It might take a while for the changes to synchronize, but as long as you were able to successfully remove it, you should have no troubles adding it to the new tenant.
What is the error message you are getting?
Unable to verify custom domain---already verified on different Tenant
Hi, I have a custom domain company.com that was already verified on company.onmicrosoft.com. The domain was added as custom domain on the wrong tenant and it was successfully verified. However, when I discovered the error, I deleted the custom domain name on that tenant and recreated it on the proper tenant.
The issue that now I not able to get the custom company.com domain to be successfully verified on the rightful tenant. Do I need to do anything other than deleting from one tenant and recreating on a different tenant have this work?

2022-11-24T04:10:32.323+00:00 Hello @Rosa Saldana ,
Adding to @Vasil Michev suggestion could you please validate the following:
- Wait at least an hour and try again. DNS records must propagate before Azure AD can verify the domain. This process can take an hour or more.
- If you are trying to verify a child domain, verify the parent domain first. Make sure the parent domain is created and verified first before you try to verify child domain.
- Make sure the DNS record is correct. Go back to the domain name registrar site. Make sure the entry is there, and that it matches the DNS entry information provided by Azure AD. If you can't update the record on the registrar site, share the entry with someone who has permissions to add the entry and verify it's correct.
- Make sure the domain name isn't already in use in another directory. A domain name can only be verified in one directory. If your domain name is currently verified in another directory, it can't also be verified in the new directory. To fix this duplication problem, you must delete the domain name from the old directory. For more information about deleting domain names, see Manage custom domain names.
- Make sure you don't have any unmanaged Power BI tenants. If your users have activated Power BI through self-service sign-up and created an unmanaged tenant for your organization, you must take over management as an internal or external admin, using PowerShell. For more information, see Take over an unmanaged directory as administrator in Azure Active Directory.
- Also, as a workaround try to verify with MX record if TXT record don't work.
- Remove the TXT/MX record of the pervious tenant from the domain DNS settings.
Do let me know if you have any further queries in the comments section.

2023-07-26T15:18:01.9066667+00:00 Hi All,
I am facing similar issue now. I have a new custom domain and would like to verify it in Azure AD. However this domain seems to be verified in another tenant previously but I am not sure to whom this Tenant belongs to.
What is the workaround to verify my domain.

2024-11-15T07:42:44.2033333+00:00 I'm encountering an error with the following details:
Error Code: DomainInUse
Error Details: Domain verification failed with the following error: 'Domain is being used by an active tenant.'
I am unsure who added this domain and when it was added. Additionally, I have not received any response from support regarding this issue.
Could someone please assist me in resolving this as soon as possible?
Thank you.
