Files from the Root of a mapped drive are missing or deleted unexpectedly from several users' personal drive

Just in case someone has seen something similar before. Here is what we are experiencing.

On an Azure Edition Server 2022 VM we have a Home folder with usernames as sub-folders on a local disk.

Users map this drive via the the AD Users and Computers | User Account |Profile | Home Folder (Connect)

17 out of 69 users between yesterday and today noticed that whatever files were in the root of their mapped drives had gone requiring them to be restored.

We have mitigated this by asking everyone else to create a sub-folder and move the root files in there as a preventative measure.

We have also asked people to create dummy files in the root of their drive to see if it happens again.

We have installed the 3rd-party Directory Monitor utility to try to capture any further instances of deletions

We have recently changed an accountancy application called CCH Central to map to \servername\Share\%username% but this has not conclusively tie-in with the missing files.

Other than that we don't know what is causing the files to go missing?

Any other advise, tools, experience welcome
