Extend Microsoft Authenticator

Dear Team,

Could you please confirm if it is possible to create my own app with passwordless support to replace Microsoft Authenticator? If yes, could you point me to the documentation where I can find information about the api/sdk (if it exists). The goal is to receive the notification and accept the authentication from my own application instead of using Microsoft Authenticator.

Thanks in advance

Best Regards,
Santiago

    Dear Santiago,

As far as I am aware this is not an option.
When connecting to MS services with the MS authenticator app, you could authenticate with a notification (accept).
When connecting to MS services with a 3rd party authenticator app, you could enter a code.
When connecting to NON-MS services with an MS authenticator app, you would also need to enter a code.

You could still go around by setting up your authenticator app (DIY-built) and using codes. For the actual notification, I think you will be bound by the MS Authenticator app.

Alternatively, you could consider the possibility of hardware keys like yubikey. They don't work the same but bring some ease when it comes to handling keys yourself.
