I recently downloaded Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio version 18.12.1 and connected to my database but when I tried to expand the database it takes too long to open the Databases. I really don't know what to do. I need assistance please.
What sort of SQL Server instance are you connecting to? SQL Server locally installed on your own computer? SQL Server on the network? SQL Server at a cloud provider?
Can you open a query window and run "SELECT @@version"?
We need to know this to help you with further troubleshooting.

I used SQL Server Authentication and server name is from my host provider server

Good to hear that it opened eventually, but it seems like you had to wait for more than an hour!
When connecting to a cloud provider, operations can certainly take a little longer time, but this sounds extreme to me.
If this cloud provider is not Microsoft, it may be better to raise the question with the cloud provider.

It's very unnormal that it takes you so much time to do this action. And I recommed you to provide your version of your SQL seeing if it is not suitable for SSMS or some else error. Just in case this situation happen again.

I see your verison is GDR which only contains security updates. And I recommed you to try using the CU version which contains others upgrading.

Huh? That looks like a fairly recent CU to me. Not the latest; that is 15.0.4261, I would guess that Donald is one or maybe two CUs behind, which is OK in my book.

But that is the GDR for CU16, that's alright. It's when people only have a GDR for RTM we should call this out.
