You can only do 144Hz over HDMI if you disable Adaptive Sync in the monitors settings. HDMI is limited to 100Hz with Adaptive Sync. Only DisplayPort supports both 144Hz and Adaptive Sync.
Monitor Won't Work As Second Monitor
Hello, I'm running Windows 11 on a ten year old laptop. I bought and connected an LG monitor to work as my second monitor, but it doesn't appear in the System Display settings as a second monitor option. It will allow me to reproduce whatever I have on my laptop screen, but I can't do two screens. I've tried clicking the "Detect" button and the "Identify" button but the computer can't find any monitor that way.
I updated my video card to the latest driver, tried two different HDMI cords, and my laptop worked great with an office monitor about two weeks ago (which is what inspired me to buy the second monitor for home).
The LG monitor does show up in Advanced Display settings in the "Select a display to view or change its settings" pull-down menu. And when I go to Bluetooth & Devices, the monitor appears in the list under "Audio Devices" but does not appear as a monitor option.
My laptop won't appear to allow me to change the Refresh Rate to anything other than 144 hz. Meanwhile, the LG monitor doesn't seem to have 144 hz as an option. Is this the underlying issue? I need to have a monitor that will work at 144 hz?

Are you trying to use same cables for both monitors? If yes, then let us inform you that you need to use different cables on a same graphic card in order to detect another monitor.
Please update with your findings.
