So that's pretty.. Attempted to google "The supplied user buffer is not valid for the requested operation" nothing relevant.. says memory issue (i have enough) or security setting (which isn't switched on)
I originally had 2019 on here and 2022. 17.3 but needed to update which failed with even less information.. removed them and rebooted.. tried to install from scratch.. get this..
dd_setup_xxx.log says

2022-12-12T16:14:14.943+00:00 OK.. further to this..
Tried installing with no work flows.. that seemed to work..
Went back in to the installer and tried adding the ASP.NET and web development workflow.. again that seemed to work.. project templates all exist. so at least I can get work done..
Tried installing MAUI -Product initializer failed to execute.

Global Hub Client Package package did not load correctly..
This has been plaguing us since moving to 2022..
I can't believe you have the nerve to charge money for this product..

If you load 2022 with code (i.e. opening a solution from windows explorer) then it works.. this happens on the front screen (open recent/Get started) if you open 2022 from the windows menu .. but it's every time.. and not just me either

Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum. In this situation, does repairing Visual Studio from VS installer work? And for this error "The supplied user buffer is not valid for the requested operation", does running the VS setup file as administrator(to install VS) work?

Nope..
This was a fresh install.. removed all previous versions of VS and rebooted windows then ran the VisualStudioSetup.exe as administrator..
Like I say, we've been having this problem for months.. tried repairing, updating, remove and re-install.. nothing seems to work.. first time I installed 2022 back in March I think it was it was a pain getting the workloads installed.. apparently it's still a problem..
Short of flattening windows and starting again I'm not sure what else to try.. and seeing as my team is also having problems I'm not convinced that will work anyway..
Every error I see when I go through the logs in The supplied user buffer is not valid for the requested operation..

The error message does say that the supplied user buffer is not valid for the requested operation. If you can confirm that the memory works well and nothing(limit) was set for it, could you please submit a ticket on our Developer Community (perhaps you can’t submit the ticket as reporting the issue needs to use VS or VS Installer. I share you the .NET entry here: .NET. You can directly report there, and the ticket will be added with correct tags later) and attach related VS setup log files and system log files for further investigate(in case it’s a potential issue)?
